This was by far the best chicken I've ever had. I only made tiny changes - I used two cloves of fresh minced garlic (as I didn't have garlic salt) and omitted the onion salt (I didn't have that either). I cooked it slowly for about 3 hours then we got hungry so I drove up the temperature in the oven until the bird was cooked, about 30 minutes later. The gravy was delicious and each bite of turkey we took we both groaned in pleasure. This is a fabulous recipe! Thanks for posting!!

It was very flavorful, but not the kind of flavor that I am crazy about. I tried it with chicken wings, as one reviewer did, but I think if I made this recipe again I'll try the whole chicken and see how it turns out.

This chicken was delicious! I only had to bake it for 4 hours (not 5) but it was a huge hit! At first I was critical, because it seemed too simple, but it was awsome! My mother asked me for the recipe because she was so impressed! I definitly recommend this recipe!

I didn't have time to prepare the night before. I halved the cayenne but the rest of the ingredients were exact. I used one 6 pound chicken. My husband said it is the best chicken he has had in his entire life. Has anyone tried this seasoning on a turkey? I think next time I will prepare it the night before and also put the spices under the skin as well.

This was my first time preparing and roasting a chicken, I couldn't have asked for a better end result... it was delicious. The only thing I will add for next time is an injection of garlic and some other spices. It fell right off the bone, was moist and flavorful. My husband gave me 2 thumbs up. I will definitely be keeping this one.

followed the directions to a T, EXCELLENT! Gave one of the chickens to the neighbors. They called after dinner to say it was scrumptions and a definite keeper. My chickens took 5 hours, I basted during the last hour of cooking.

We enjoy this recipe a lot, but sometimes the chicken falls apart if baked for 5 hours.

Fabulous! I followed the recipe for the spiced rub as written, but used split chicken breasts and roasted them for 2 hours. I also poured a can of chicken broth in the bottom of my roaster and basted the chicken after about an hour in the oven. Thanks for the great recipe!
