I thought this was delicious, but I am the only tomato soup lover in my family. The only reason I am giving four stars instead of five is that it needed a little more flavor. I used 2 tbsp. freeze-dried basil instead of fresh and will add a little more next time along with some garlic powder as many other readers suggest. Also - as a word of caution - putting the tomatoes in the blender hot will cause the lid to blow off!! Maybe most people know this, I did not. My hand is burnt and the mess was not fun.

Really, really, really good. Top with a couple big home-made croutons and/or a pile of shredded parmesan or cheddar cheese...perfect.

The flavor was excellent, but I thought the soup could have been thicker. I think that I'll cut back the tomatoe juice by a cup next time.

I juiced my own tomatoes for the 4 cups of tomato juice and the soup came out a little watery but still very tasty.

So yummy! I used a 28 oz can of crushed tomatoes and added 4 cloves of garlic with the tomatoes and juice. I forgot to add salt and pepper but it didn't need it. I topped it with some grated parmesean. My husband who doesn't like tomatoes raved about it. This soup will go into my regular rotation. It was super easy, tasty and satisfying!

As per "BaysChick" in 2006: used canned diced tomatoes (28oz) and two cloves of minced garlic with simmering tomatoes. Absolutely delicious!

This soup had a great taste, but was a bit too creamy for my taste. I reduced the butter and kept the cream the same. Next time I plan to reduce the cream to allow more of the tomato flavor to shine through.

Canned tomatoes make a decent alternative if out of time. I also used lots of garlic which makes it taste even better in my opinion.

Simple and fast! I will never ever use canned tomato soup again! Enough for 2 meals for us! Great way to use tomatoes! Yummy.

It was just ok for me. I was hoping it would be thicker. It was creamy just not as thick as I would of liked it. A little less basil for me next time, kind of over powered everything. Still looking for that perfect recipe.

This was pretty good, but there was definitely something missing. My kids normally love tomato soup, but they weren't too pleased with this. It didn't have the tang or sweetness that we were expecting, maybe it would be better with some garlic and possibly something else, I just can't quite put my finger on what that something else might be though. I probably won't make it again.

I am a huge fan of Panera Bread's tomato soup so I was looking for a similar recipe. This is not exact, but very close. It has the same creaminess to it and has a restaurant quality. I did not peel my tomatoes and they blended up nicely. I would recommend the seeding part. This was a hit with my kids...served it with mozzerella sticks...a huge hit!

Delicious! Tastes just like my favorite restaurant's soup! Easy to make and makes a lot! I made it once using fresh tomatoes but I didn't take the skins off. It was good, but probably would have been better without the skins. The second time I made it I used canned tomatoes (I admit it, I'm lazy and wanted a quick meal). It tasted the same with the canned tomatoes. Just as good! Each time I used fresh basil. That's key. Next time I think I'll try to use fresh tomatoes without the skins. I love it and I bet everyone you make it for will love it too!

The prep time for this recipe was way off for me. I made this on a week night because it sounded like it was be quick and easy. Was I wrong. I started at 5pm and finished at 7pm. The peeling, seeding and dicing of the tomato took a very long time and was very tedious. The taste was ok but not near what I expected.

I loved this, though it I thought that it might use a bit too much cream as it was a little heavy. Other than that it was great!

This was a really delicious soup, and just what I was looking for. I had a very similar soup at The Space Needle Restaurant in Seattle, and this was just as good, if not better, and much cheaper! I didn't peel or seed the tomatoes, I used only a few tablespoons of butter, and about 2/3 cup of half & half instead of heavy cream, and it was perfect. I didn't have any problems with the half & half curdling. I used dried basil as that was all I had and added some garlic powder as well as a scant tablespoon of sugar. Also, I used a hand-held blender in the soup pot so I didn't have to bother with transfering and cleaning up another dish. I will definately make this again. My husband and I enjoyed this with grilled cheese and bacon sandwiches. So warm, so creamy, so perfect!
