Delicious served warm with ice cream. If you don't have buttermilk, you may substitute sour milk. Stir 1 tablespoon of vinegar or lemon juice together with 1 cup of milk and let stand for 10 minutes.

Strawberries and rhubarb combine to make a sweet, fruity filling in this cake. The crumb topping adds a little crunch; it would probably be good with some nuts sprinkled on top. 

Oma's Rhubarb Cake

Rhubarb is baked into a streusel-topped coffee cake. Oma always makes this for her grand kids after she picks through her garden. Probably not good for the thighs but Oma's cooking is always good for the taste buds.

My great-aunt gave me this recipe. It's especially delicious when rhubarb is in season, and tastes even better with the old-fashioned milk topping. But you'll love it even with frozen rhubarb and 'modern-day' whipped topping!
