Ingredients

  • 1 cup shortening
  • 1/2 cup white sugar
  • 1/2 cup packed brown sugar
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 1/2 teaspoons vanilla extract
  • 2 3/4 cups all-purpose flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/2 cup chopped walnuts (optional)

Directions

  1. Cream together shortening and sugars. Mix in eggs and vanilla. Blend together flour, baking soda, and salt; mix into the creamed mixture. Mix in nuts.
  2. Mold into a long roll about 2 1/2 inches in diameter. Wrap in wax paper, and chill several hours.
  3. Cut thin, and place on greased baking sheets.
  4. Bake at 400 degrees F (205 degrees C) for about 8 minutes.
