“My mother-in-law shared this recipe with me 40 years ago. She served this salad at all holiday meals, and the tradition has continued in our family. Preparation is so much easier today, thanks to red grapes without seeds! Another 'updated' shortcut in the preparation is miniature marshmallows...cooks from the good old days know what 'sticky fun' it was to snip regular-sized marshmallows!”

My grandmother's recipe is similar. However, it omits the cream cheese and includes 1 t. vanilla added to the whipped cream which is sweetened, and includes a sliced banana and walnut halves. We serve this salad at Thanksgiving.

This recipe has been made for Thanksgiving dinner for over 40 years in my family. I was lucky enough to learn it at my grandmother's side, although when she passed I found the original recipe in the one thing I wanted- her cookbook. The original recipe was handwritten by my great Aunt Betty (her sister in law. Now, it is up to me to make this special treat each year.

This was okay. I didn't care for the cream cheese taste. I thought it needed something else. My husband did love it, though, so I will likely try it again with a few adjustments to tone down the overwhelming cream cheese flavor. Maybe kick up the pineapple taste a bit by adding a little more juice?
