Recipe was great. I over kneaded the dough a bit. But all in all my whole family loved them. I did make my own filling using chicken, mushrooms and tomatoes. The dough was great and pretty easy.

These were really good. I do wish they had sauce in them though. I added a ton of tomato sauce on the side. Yummy!

I made these exactly as the recipe states & they are pretty good! The dough is fantastic & easy to work with. The filling wasn't as good as I had expected but it is my personal taste. I will make these again but use mozzerella & parmesian instead of the cheddar & not use nearly as much basil - the basil flavor is too overwhelming for me. I would also suggest a bit of oregano. This is an EXCELLENT basic recipe that has so much potential!

Absolutely great taste!! I never thought I'd attempt my own dough but it was easy and I loved it! I took a few hints and let the yeast sit with the sugar for 10 min., I also used ricotta, red pepper and ham. I might try garlic butter on the crust instead of egg next time. Thanks!

This was a good recipe. I am giving it only four stars because something called "Italian" and then using Cheddar cheese, it not "Italian". I used Mozzarella instead, I added more Ricotta, since calzones are cheese based. The dough was great though. Then I added whatever people wanted, I did this instead of make your own Pizza night. Remember folks, no "Cheddar" in "Italian" calzones. "American" calzones maybe...

Loved this recipe but make SURE you use the dough as soon as it rises and you roll it out. I waited an hour before cooking it after I filled it and everything and it DOUBLED in size...it was very bready but I can tell it would have been great if I would have put it in the oven right after I made it. Used the BBQ Chicken Calzone filling and it was fantastic.

Great recipe! My hesitation in making calzones is that I didn't want the crust to get soggy on the bottom -- this recipe took care of that problem perfectly by not including the sauce inside. Nice and filling and easy!

This makes the best dough! I filled our calzones with our favorite fillings, but used this as our dough. Everyone loved it and I'll definitely use this recipe again!

Grumpy really enjoyed these. I had to give it 4 stars though because he would not have eaten it if I had not put some sauce in the calzone.

I used this recipe just for the dough and it was fantastic! I made 4 calzones instead of 2 large. The family added what toppings they liked and we served the sauce on the side. These came out beautifully and were an instant HIT. Easy, Customizable and Fun - we will definitely make these often.

These were very good, I used sausage, quite a bit more than a half cup and I would suggest browning the mushrooms first to let some of the moisture out. I shaped into 4 calzones and I did sprinkle the top with garlic powder after brushing with egg. I also added onion to my filling. Great flavor! I forgot to mention I used the dough cycle of my bread machine for the dough and just added according to specs on machine.

I've never made the dough. I usually thaw frozen bread dough and divide it. Great filling, overall wonderful dinner. Be careful not to overfill the calzones, since the filling will spill out and may burn.

Nice clean simple recipe that was enjoyed by both my kids (4 and 2) and husband. I did make some substitutions however, including mozza for cheddar; broccoli for mushrooms and I added small bits of pepperoni. This is so wonderful as you can change the inside ingredients any time you like or with whatever is on hand.

This was a breeze to make. the dough come out perfect. It made the best crust!! I made two sets (doubled recipe) the first i put the filling listed here and it was good, although next time i will add a ton of spinach and no pepperoni. The second i filled with provalone and italian cold cuts. I sent the 4 off with my husband for the 'guys' and only a small piece of one came back. It was a huge hit! It is just to simple not to make again, all i can think of is different ways to stuff it! thank you
