This is a simple, delicious recipe. I followed the directions pretty closely. The only differences I made were that I used a little less butter (about 3 Tbsp.) and a 2.5 qt. dish instead of 2. I tried a 2 qt. dish, but it was too deep, so I used a standard square, shallow casserole dish. I also added a little bit of extra flavor by sprinkling the chicken with a little dill weed, garlic salt and lemon pepper before spooning the butter and milk on top. I think it would've been really good even without the extra spices, though. The best part was everyone loved it. My kids are so picky, but two of the three of them actually had seconds! Definitely a keeper!

I just finished making this dish for dinner. I did not have some of the problems that others had as far as "hard" or "dry" rice. The texture of both the chicken and rice was just fine. I did add garlic to the ranch mixture and as always I added salt and pepper to my liking. I also threw some shredded cheese on top towards the end of baking. It's a pretty basic dish, but has plenty of potential when you add your favorite things to it. Next time I'll add chopped tomato and onion.

I gave it 4 stars because of the potential flavor. The liquid ratio is off if you use regular long grain rice. I used this as a basis for some changes: Added 1/2 chopped onion sauted with some garlic in 1tsp butter, 2 cups converted rice, 4 cups of water (my test is to mix the water/seasonings and taste before cooking, that way you can adjust as required for flavor-more ranch, salt, etc). Added pepper to taste. Place the rice on the bottom of the casserole, place chicken on the top, pour the hot liquid (with onions & garlic in it), cover and bake for 60 - 70 mins. Turned out great.

I followed this recipe exactly and the rice was still hard as a brick and had almost no flavor. We will never make this again.

I don't care much for Ranch anything, but DH loves this recipe and begs me to make it on a regular basis. It's easy enough, and that much I like.

I don't know if I messed something up but this did not turn out good at all. The rice was dry and almost flavorless and the chicken was bland. Maybe it's supposed to be regular rice and not instant?
