These were pretty good. I cooked the recipe as written and they came out very well. I do like the sweet bean recipes, but this was a nice change of pace. I served them with sweet slow cooked ribs and they complimented each other well.

These were very good. I do not care for sweet beans so these made a nice change. I used chipotle powder instead of chili powder and it was great. Thanks for the recipe.

This recipe is great!! Even my kids love it. I changed it by adding a 1/4 lb black beans and a 1/4 lb great northern in addition to the 1/2 lb pinto. I did soak the additional beans overnight. Yum!!!

We liked these a lot!.. I followed directions but had to substitute 1/4 tsp. cayenne for the red pepper flakes since It's what I had. I added 1/2 cup of BBQ sauce and 1T mustard!.. Delicious!

My husband does not like "sweet" beans. He likes Ranch style with his BBQ. This recipe worked for me. I've made it twice. 1st time as is and 2nd time (today) I used white beans instead of pintos and also took the edge off of the heat from the red pepper flakes with 3 Tbs of BBQ sauce. I really like this recipe as is but wanted to experiment with the flavors. Great recipe. Thanks for submitting it.

Good beans!!! After the first 1 1/4 hours of cooking they looked pretty dry. Maybe I need a tighter lid. I added 2 more cups of water for the last simmer. I used chipotle chili powder. Excellent flavor. I will be making these beans again! I might try adding a little dry mustard and liquid smoke. This recipe will definitely go camping with me! Good stuff!!!
