This icing recipe is my absolute favorite out of all that I've tried! I used it to pipe on decorations for my daughter's horse birthday cake. I needed to add almost 2/3 cup more powdered sugar to make it stiff enough to pipe on. To decorate a 9x13" cake, you will want to double the recipe. (Make sure you use clear vanilla if you want white icing.)

Wonderful! I will never buy store frosting again. Double the recipe, though for a 9x13 pan. Yummy!

Great recipe! I followed exactly and it tasted wonderful. Also tried it with 1/2 tsp almond extract added to the recipe, and that was great as well.

I tried this recipe and only added half the precribed vanilla and the other half almond extract. The flavor was good but there was WAY too much of it. I will try it tonight with only vanilla and see the difference. Otherwise it was perfectly delicious and I will use it as a base for my own icing recipe! I will probably half the flavor, add salt and add sugar to pipe decorations

SO GOOD! This frosting is very smooth and silky! I probably won't ever buy frosting from the store again, either! I made 1 1/2 batches to cover a 9-inch round, double layer cake. (1 batch wasn't enough to cover it) I'm anxious to try to make it with chocolate next time!

LUSCIOUS RECIPE if you like it sweet. I could only eat one cupcake with about a teaspoon of icing. Of course - the kids love it. Good consistency - not thick at all - made it good for spreading.

FINALLY!!! A wonderful-tasting recipe without the nasty vegetable shortening! I followed this recipe to the letter and will definitely use it again, but must admit that it is not "tough enough" for cake decorating. It's wonderful for icing cupcakes and roughly icing cakes for very casual occasions, but in my humble opinion, this won't do very well with piping and decorating. Nonetheless, you owe it to yourself to try this recipe!

Followed the recipe exactly, using a stand mixer. The icing turned out rather fluffy and smooth. Great for icing cakes, but probably not the best for piping/decorating. Of course, with a little adjustment I think it would work fine. The consistency I came up with was kind of like out of a tub, of course it tasted much better!

I thought this was excellent just the right amount of sweetness. It was not quite enough to cover a 3 layer cake. Very easy to make thank you.

Really good frosting. Not sure how much milk i used, cause i just add a few drops at a time until i get it to the consistency i like. Otherwise, i followed directions precisely.

I wish I could give this 10 stars. Like some other reviewers, I have always used canned icing, just because making it myself intimidated me. This was quick and easy, and so delicious!! My daughter wanted an angel food cake for her birthday, and this icing was wonderful on an angel food cake. People were coming back for more, and within minutes the whole cake was gone. I will never purchase another can of icing again. Thanks for sharing this!!

I have always used canned frosting to ice my cakes and cupcakes GASP i know! haha so this was my first try at making buttercream icing and I have to say this was so easy and came out perfect! I am going to be using this from now on! I am waiting for my cupcakes to cool and have my frosting in a bag with a tip ready to decorate. I am going to recommend this to my friend who is also an avid baker. I followed this recipe exactly and it was the right consistency. I would recommend refridgerating after because it seemed like it would be too creamy to frost a cupcake without getting it everywhere!

This was absolutely delicious. Other frosting recipes I have tried on here have tasted too buttery, but not this one. When I tasted it I literally yelped it was so good. A couple of things...one batch is NOT enough. You need double for a two layer cake, and probably two and a half if you plan to do alot of piping/decorating. Adding food coloring will make runny so add more sugar to account for that. Other than that, this is the best recipe ever!

This is the same buttercream recipe I use, except that I add just a pinch of salt to cut the sweetness. Delish!
