This recipe turned out great! My husband, who doesn't like cake, even rated it a 4 star...My daughter on the other hand, gave it a 5. I prepared it mostly as the recipe stated, except I used the Duncan Hines Dark Chocolate mix like others suggested. I sifted powdered sugar over it to garnish, along with a couple cherries I reserved. It looked great and tasted even better! Thanks!

My husband said it wasn't quite as moist as he was used to my cakes being but found it tasty nonetheless. I did not find any moisture issues. I made it exactly as the recipe suggested. I did serve with a dollop of whipped cream as well. I will probably change the icing next time though to a ganache with a cherry garnish or my favorite chocolate frosting, again, with a cherry garnish.

The cake dense, not very moist. Next time I'll whip the cake batter a bit before I add the cherries to make it more fuffy. The taste was awesome just needs more fuffiness.

Made this right to the recipe & loved it. I made this for some thing different & found that it came out great. Our child on the other hand doesn't like black forest cake, but every one else loved it!

I made this cake twice in a weekend for birthday's and it was a hit! I made the cake as directed but instead of the chocolate topping I put real whip cream and mixed it with mini chcoclate chips. This cake came out very moist and very tasty.

We didn't like this that much. It seemed way too sweet. I felt the chocolate chips in the cake plus the chocolate frosting were simply too much (because they're essentially the same thing). I substituted Amaretto for almond extract, as someone suggested. People ended up eating around the chocolate chips in the cake. I would omit them next time and perhaps skip the frosting and use something lighter like whipped cream.

I am making this for the 3rd time in a month. The first time was my first time making this, and everyone who tried it loved it. It has been requested twice more since then. Great recipe -- It's almost too easy, it feels like I'm cheating.

Pretty, easy, and everyone loved it! Different take on your regular chocolate cake. I cut the maraschino cherries in half and put them all around the top of the cake, gave it kind of a polka-dot look.

Something about this didn't do it for me. It was really moist and tasted good but was missing something..maybe it's just me and I'm picky. My family loved it. Thanks for the easy recipe.

Wow, this is my new favorite cake! I made two of these cakes for a special family gathering. I made them in springform pans. They came out beautifully. I was in a hurry with the glaze, and used all the remaining chocolate chips, so I had to add a little more powdered sugar, but it was so delicious and looked SO impressive, like a restaurant dessert! I served it with a dolop of whipped cream. The only thing that could have improved this winning recipe would have been some chocolate dipped strawberries for garnish, but it is January!

This is my son's favorite cake! I made this as a birthday cake for him and did a couple of things that made it even better. First I made it in the 9X13 pan and after it cooled, I carefully sliced into two layers. Poured the chocolate glaze on one layer and put the top on. Then, like someone else suggested, I piped cream cheese frosting all around the edge and poured another can of cherries in the center. It was awesome!

Divine and easy. Hubby gave 5 stars and he is hard to please. I used Pillsbury moist supreme devil. I added 1/2 c oil & 1/2 c water. I also placed batter in 2 greased 9 inch cake pans baked 30-35 minutes. I cooled the cakes and in between the layers I put chocolate icing then covered the entire cake with it. So good!! Icing simple: 4 & 1/2 c confec. sugar, 1/2 cup milk, 1 c soft butter, 1 & 1/4 c cocoa, 1/2 tsp vanilla and 1/2 tsp almond extract. Beat butter, then add rest and beat....so good and like I said easy
