this cookie was very good but the filling tastes like shortening and nothing else, i followed the recipe perfectly. I plan on using cream cheese frosting, this would make these cookies delicious.

I used a different recipe for the filling (using marshmallow cream) but the whoppie pies were one of the most raved-about desserts at work. The only change I would make for next time is forming them a little larger. Honestly, one of the best recipes I've ever made!

I love these but but I've made a couple of changes. In the past I've found that they burn kind of easily also it takes a little time to spoon them out. I spread the mix on a cake roll pan then cut after they're backed. Also, I use cream cheese icing. My recipe for this is 1 package cream cheese, 1 stick of butter to 1lb of powder sugar and 1 tsp of vanilla. I think the cream cheese icing really brings out the pumpkin flavor.

Made these for our annual Halloween party. Everyone ate more than one and commented on how "awesome" they were. Delicious! However, being the one who made them, they were frustrating in that they stuck to the platter I served them on, we ended up using a small spatula to serve. I wonder if you were to add more flour if they wouldn't stick so much????? Will be making them again and I'm going to try it.....otherwise - addictive to eat! I love the filling - it's what I use on my red velvet cake and is one of my faves!

The cake recipe was delicious and the pies turned out perfectly. I agree that the frosting recipe tasted far too much like crisco. I ended up scraping it off and using a cream cheese frosting, which was perfect. I have never had better pumpkin cakes than these though.

Very, very good! I followed one reviewers advice and added 1/4 cup extra pumpkin to give it an extra pumpkin flavor. Also I added 1/4 an extra cup powdered sugar to the frosting. It seemed a little to crisco-ee, not quite sweet enough. They turned out just perfect!! My husband and father said they were the best they ever ate! (Sorry mom and mother-in-law:)

I don't call these whoopie pies. They came out flat, slightly crispy and tasted like a cookie. I even tried not cooking them as long and lowering the temp. I didn't like the filling at all. I was looking for a PUFFY whoopie pie recipe because I lost mine. They did have a nice flavor, just not what I had in mind. Two stars because my 12 year old loved them, but I wouldn't make them again.
