Outstanding, I used this recipe on a roast I cooked for a large family diner and it was a big hit. I am not a great cook so you made me look good. Everyone was very surprised. Thank you Mary G

This pot roast recipe is great! The roast which would have been on the tougher side came out moist, tender and flavorful. I highly recommend it for a great dinner!

Made this on Thanksgiving along with a turkey and this was a bigger hit than the turkey!! This is definetly my favorite roast recipe!! I cooked in a crock pot with veggies (added the veggies halfway through cooking time) and it was super!

I followed this recipe to the letter except used 2 cans of cream of mushroom (3.5 lbs. of meat) and I marinated the meat for 2 hours first (olive oil, granulated garlic and Kroger steak seasoning - similar to Dales). This turned out excellent and it is a terrific way to use less expensive cuts of meat (particularly round steak).

A couple weeks ago I made a roast from a recipe on this site and proclaimed it to be the best roast I'd ever had. Well, this is taking it's spot. The meat was beyond tender and so juicy. I did put all the ingredients, plus a bag of baby carrots, into the slow cooker instead. Cooked it on high for 6 hours, low for one. Thickened the gravy with instant potato flakes. So, so, SO good!

This was really good, and different from the standard cream of mushroom, onion packet and beef broth pot roasts out there; but I did feel it was missing something. Wasn't able to put my finger on it exactly. I did use my crock pot and threw in the bay leaf sans the cloves (not a huge fan of cloves) along with maybe a tablespoon of beef boullion granuels. Let it cook all day and threw some baby carrots and potatoes in about half way. Everything was tender and delicious and once the drippings were thickened, they made a wonderful gravy. I would like to try this one again, only I will experiment with the spices. Thanks!!

Very good and easy and my husband is or can be a picky eater but he did like this and you don't taste the beer at all.

My entire family liked this one! The gravy is loaded with flavor and the meat came out tender and juicy. I complimented this with smothered green beans and rice. Will make again!

This was wonderful. Cooked it in a large pan, on the stove top. It cooked for 2.5 hours and the meat was so tender. We used Bass Ale, added freshmushrooms while it was cooking. Served it with a salad.. it was delicious.

what a simple, delicious recipe. i added a bag of frozen roasted potatoes about an hour before serving. my boyfriend confused my request to slice up the roast and diced it into bite sized pieces... but it turned out to be a great beef stew. my mother was visiting and requested the recipe. thanks! this one's a keeper!

Easy! Tasty! Inexpensive! I don't know why this one got any negative reviews. I followed the recipe almost to the letter (I didn't have any bay leaf, and I used ground cloves instead of whole) and it turned out perfectly. At first I noticed a slight bitter aftertaste like a few people mentioned, but I attribute this to the cloves and/or beer. If the beer is responsible for the bitterness, could be the type of beer used. I used a lager (Moosehead). Also, the recipe didn't call for salt, but I added maybe half a teaspoon. This is a definate "make again"! Would go nice with rice.

It would have been better if it didnt have a hint of beer taste. LOL so I guess don't try this if you don't like beer!

So easy. So tasty. I used my crockpot. Seared the meat first and sauteed the vegetables. Used Cream of Mushroom with Roasted Garlic soup. I used a tri-tip roast and it was so moist and tender that my 17 year old who is NOT a red meat fan, loved it. Next time will cook some wide egg noodles and serve it like a stroganoff.

This was a great meal. I was suprised by the flavor with the beer and clove. It had a taste reminiscent of beef stroganoff. Thank you

I found this an easy and tasty roast recipe. I made in the crockpot and my roast was flavorful and tender. I would recommend adding mushrooms and potatoes to the roast, but really made no other changes. I used a light beer and Healthy Request Cream of Mushroom soup. Other than needing a little salt I did not find the gravy lacking at all. I served with mashed potatoes, biscuits and salad for an easy weeknight meal.

I made this, and my boyfriend loved it. I'm not sure if I was as impressed - either the cut of meat I used wasn't the best (possible) or the sauce was a little too "Bay leaf-y." In any rate, I'll try this one more time, just to see how it cooks with a different type of meat, but I may make some adjustments (not as much bay leaf, taking it out all together, etc)

The boyfriend loved it, I thought the meat tasted boring. Maybe it was the cheap cut of meat? I give it three stars, my sweetie four.
