Love this bread. Used just one pack of yeast. I'll put the next time raisins in the last dough cycle and bake the bread in muffin pans in the oven.

I grew up with this kind of bread, many hours in the making. This recipe is great, although my machine had it done in 2 hrs 30 min. I warmed the milk and margerine to 112 degrees and let the yeast grow for 10 min. Then I put in the rest of the ingredients and started the machinine. I am going to make dozens for Christmas gifts. My family will love it.

Nice, simple bread. I had to use considerably more flour, but every machine is different (pay attention during the mixing cycle!).

This bread had great texture, and my kids loved the taste. It had a nice flaky, crisp crust. I cut the recipe in half and didn't have any overflowing problems. I gave it four stars because, like the other user this isn't like the other portugese bread that I have had:) But a great dinner bread!

Tried this recipe today. Simply fantastic!! Would make excellant rolls. I agree with other posts that in the bread machine you may want to put it on the light white setting. On sweet bread setting the crust was very brown and a little hard. Overall I can't wait to make it again.

Yum. This was my first test with a bread machine- before I made my bread by hand. It's so easy! I don't have a sweetbread setting, so I used White bread, light crust. The bread is light, fluffy, and with a tinge of sweet essence. Recommended.

Only slightly sweet. Not the Portuguese sweet bread I'm used to getting in Fall River, MA from Portuguese bakers. Tasted fine, but was more of a sandwich white bread than a sticky, yummy sweet dessert bread. Wouldn't make again.

Excellent flavor. I used a bread machine. I don't have a sweet bread setting, so I put it on 1.5 lb. basic medium. Thanks!

Awesome. Baked a loaf today and had BLTs with fresh tomatoes from the garden. Oh...how wonderful!!!! I, too, baked mine in the oven like some at 350 for 25 minutes just 'cz I don't like the shape of the loaf from the bread machine. Didn't adjust anything.

Perfect bread to go with just about anything! Simple, delicious, and turns out a very nice golden color...cuts beautifully, too. I love to tweak recipes, but this recipe is perfect the way it is!
