DIRECTIONS
Place popcorn in a large bowl; set aside. In a heavy saucepan, combine brown sugar, water, corn syrup, butter and salt. Bring to a boil over medium heat, stirring constantly. Continue cooking, without stirring, until a candy thermometer reads 270 degrees F (soft-crack stage).
Remove from the heat; stir in vanilla. Pour over popcorn; stir until evenly coated. When cool enough to handle, quickly shape into balls.
FOOTNOTE
We recommend that you test your candy thermometer before each use by bringing water to a boil; the thermometer should read 212 degrees F. Adjust your recipe temperature up or down based on your test.

Great taste!!! I actually used microwavable popcorn, that I made a few days ago. It turned out just fine. I also only used 2 bags of it, so it was probably a lot less than 2 1/2 cups unpopped. I always make extra topping for everything, so it worked out well. These were extra chewy popcorn balls.

A good flavor. This is the stuff that realy sticks to the fillings! I am alost concerned that they might come out. I prefered the recipe that is made with the condenced milk.

Very good and easy. I used light corn syrup instead of dark which gives it a lighter flavor, I assume. My editorial baking tips inclide: 1. Make sure to keep it from getting under your fingernails because 270 degrees doesn't feel good and 2: Use a wooden spoon because it broke my really thick silicone spatula in half. I love the recipe and will make another batch before Halloween!

Oops, my fault. I let my topping go to the hard crack stage...I don't have a candy thermometer so I was attempting to eyeball it. But anyway, it still tasted pretty well, it was just very difficult to mold into balls. I ended up using most of the popcorn as caramel corn. I only used 1/2 cup of uncooked popcorn and it was more than enough. I may try this again, when I get a candy thermometer!
