My recipe uses a product native to the north-central United States, wild rice. Wild rice is not a rice at all, but rather a grass seed. It was a staple in the diet of the early American Indians and remains a favorite today because of its crunchy texture. This dish is especially good served with poultry.

A very quick, easy, and inexpensive main dish to prepare. You can top this with sour cream before serving, if you'd like. Depending who will dine with me, I add some red pepper flakes for added pizzazz.

Our Test Kitchen adapted Amy Chop's recipe to use up leftover wild rice. I found this years ago, and it has became a family favorite, says the Oak Grove, Louisiana cook. TIP: Try adding cooked chicken or smoked sausage. There are endless possibilities for new and exciting variations, Amy says.
