This was so fun to make! I didn't have any honey and used pancake syrup instead, also used wheat flour instead of all-purpose. Since some of the reviewers said the cooking time was a bit too long, and I wanted chewy granola bars, I only cooked them for 20 minutes. They turned out very soft and chewy, so I will keep doing them like that. All in all, this is a delicious recipe and I will make them again!

These are wonderful snacks for the kids. I like that you can play around with what goes in them. Perhaps they might be a touch sweet and next time I think I will use just a bit less sugar like others have suggested.

This great recipe has become a staple in our home. I've made these a few dozen times so figured it was time to review the recipe. The recipe is so versatile and works well with the changes that I have made. The changes I made are just out of personal preferrence. The first time I made the recipe just as is and it was great. I add 1/3 c ground flaxseed meal and 1/3 c wheat bran in place of the wheat germ. I omit the salt. I also reduce the amount of sugar to 1/3 c because I sometimes add applesauce in place of the oil. I increase the honey to 2/3 c. I also use unbleached white whole wheat flour. Today I added a 1/2 cup of peanut butter and chocolate chips. My entire family loves these bars and I love that I can serve them healthy whole grains without unwanted corn syrup and preservatives. Thank you for sharing this recipe.

These are really good and healthy, too! So much better than the preservative laden, air filled granola bars in the grocery stores. I made mine with some chocolate chips and pecans, sliced them up, wrapped them then froze them for school lunches. If my husband stops eating them then we actually might have some left for school. :)

Delicious! My husband and toddler son love these. I added 1 tsp of orange extract and used coconut oil instead of vegetable oil. Get your hands slightly wet before patting it into the pan. This will help you get a smooth surface and will prevent the batter from sticking to your hands.

Excellent recipe! I used 1/2 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup honey, 1/4 canola oil and a 1/4 unsweetened applesauce, wheat flour and 1/2 wheat bran instead of the wheat germ. For fruit, I added about a 1/2 cup of fresh blueberries. They turned out great.

These were great with my modifications, though sticky sweet. I only used 1/3 cup brown sugar, next time I think I'll only use a tablespoon - the raisins and honey make it very sweet already. I had no wheat germ so I just replaced it with almond powder, I believe it helped give it a softer texture which I really liked. Thanks for the recipe - I'll play around with it unless I find the perfect combination of sugar, raisins and honey!

I Have been making these for about a year and my family loves them even my small children. I have made them exactly as the recipe and have also made one or more of the following changes all tasting great although the regular recipe tastes best...substitute applesauce instead of oil, splenda instead of sugar and or wheat flour instead of white all or 1/2. I also ALWAYS add 1/2 cup flax seed.

This is an awesome and very easy recipe. I substituted peach puree for the vegetable oil, carob chips for the raisins and 1 tbsp of milled flaxseed and 3 tablespoons of water for the egg to make it vegan. Everybody loved it! Oh, and a dash of cinnamon can't miss in any of my kids' fav dishes/ snacks.

These are great!! I followed recipe exactly except used m&m's instead of raisins and they are so good! I really like that this recipe uses all standard ingredients that I always have around the house so I don't have to go to the store to buy ingredients for them!

I love these bars. It was essy to make and easy to pack in lunches. My kids learned to like them. Because they were used to the store bought granola bars, it took them 2 batche of these to fully appreciate the pure taste of ingredients. Great helathy snack.

I cut back on oil and sugar, as previous reviewers. Added flax and used whole wheat flour. Baked for just over 20 mins, then they started to get quite brown so I took them out. They're pretty good, but nothing fantastic. More cinnamon next time, and will add dried fruit or berries. Although I will make again for our biking trips and an afternoon snack at work. Thanks!

I add flax seed, use whole wheat flour, less brown sugar, just a little oil/replace with applesauce, it's a great standard recipe with lots of options to play with. My family loves them...especially my 2 year old, and I am glad they are so good for you.

This recipe is THE BEST!!! I made a few adjustments: I used flax seeds instead of wheat germ and used applesauce along with oil. I also used a greased foil lined pan, then you can lift the granola bars out and it makes cutting so much easier!! My picky 2 yeard old loved these!!!

I followed the recipe exactly, except I used only 1/2 cup of brown sugar, and I substituted the raisins for about 3/4 cup dried sweetened cranberries and 1/4 cup slivered almonds. I also baked them for about 25 min. The texture was more cookie-like than I expected, and they were also too sweet for me. (I'm used to the sweetness of bars like the Kashi trail mix flavor). Otherwise, the flavors in this recipe were very good. I will make these again, but will use maybe only 1/3 cup or even 1/4 cup of the brown sugar, and perhaps use chopped or whole almonds instead of slivered (for more crunch). I think I would also bake them for the recommended time of 30-35 minutes. I might even add some rice krispy cereal, like another member suggested, for more textural variety.
