I LOVED it! Family did also. I like the idea of changing it whenever by what you add. Will make again.

Just the recipe I needed! FYI, the egg is not necessary. I omitted it and the bars were still chewy and kept shape after cooling.

Whole wheat option...I used 2 1/2 cups of oats and 1 cup of whole wheat flour. The rest was the same. The finished product was a bit crumbly but it tasted delicious. I would make them again in a heartbeat.

These are fantastic!! I've made them many times. The original recipe is perfect! Just so everyone knows, no adjusting needed besides the cooking time, mine only cooked for 18 mins and that was all that was needed. But what I love about this recipe is how healthy it is and how easy it is to add different flavors. I've added peanut butter, ground almonds, chopped roasted almonds, mini chocolate chips, I've even added a couple handfuls of grape nuts! With all that extra adding, I did add another egg, but I love it all! Thank you so much for this recipe, oh yea, I decreased the brown sugar to 1/2 cup and it's still fine! Thanks again! My husband and son thank you as well!

I really liked this recipe. I altered the recipe a bit...used crushed flax seed, instead of wheat germ; used 1/2 whole wheat flour instead of all white flour; & used chocolate chips instead of raisins. Thx for this one. Will definately make again!

My family can't stop eating these. I substituted 1/2 whole wheat flour with 1/2 the white flour (which I do with most things) and used about 1/2 c. of sugar. I made two batches in two days and my family loves it. I also used wheat bran once instead of wheat germ. Very good. 9/26/09 Still love this, I make it with all wheat flour instead of 1/2 and 1/2 now and it tastes the same.

These are fantastic bars!! I too, changed them up a bit. I cut the sugar down to 1/2 C, use whole wheat flour, did 1 full tsp of cinnamon, and instead of 1/2c of oil, I added 1 cup of apple sauce. I also added a raisin & cranberry mix along with some mini choco chips & some raw sliced almonds. HUGE hit. I do alot of running and use them as my fuel at the 1/2 way point of long runs. My almost 5 year old LOVES these. For my hubby, who lacks the sweet tooth, I just added chopped dates and left out the choc chips. Another hit. The ingredients are a staple in our household now. Extremely east to make too.

I'm a longtime allrecipes user, but never registered until now. The main reason was so I could comment on how much I love this easy, delicious recipe. Like other commenters noted, so fun to add different components. My favorite combination thus far consists of unsalted peanuts, raisins and a few mini chocolate chips (to keep the boyfriend happy). I also reduced the brown sugar, as others mentioned, to 1/2 cup. I also use whole wheat flour. Mine take less time than the recipe states to cook, but more than some other reviewers...then again, all ovens are different. Mine take, on average, about 21 minutes. I've been bragging about this recipe all week to friends and family. It's definitely a keeper!

These were pretty good a little to sweet though. I think next time I will cut the sugar down to 1/2 cup. I used dried apples in place of the raisins which was really good. I will be making these again. Thanks!

Loved this! I want to try it with dried cranberries next time. I did add 1/2 cup applesause as tons of others had mentioned but I think it would have been just fine either way!

Excellent! I just made these, they are still warm. I'm out of wheat germ, so I omitted that. I used whole wheat flour, canola oil and golden raisins. I added applesauce, and maybe a 1/2 cup semi sweet chocolate chips. My very, very, VERY pick 4 year old, who has like 4 foods he eats, is eating these up! Next time, I will use 1/3-1/2 cup brown sugar, it's a little too sweet for me, but still very good!

I absolutely love this recipe. I substituted a couple of things. I used wheat flour instead of regular, flax seed instead of wheat germ and added walnuts, craisins and golden raisins. Thats what I love about this recipe, you can add so many different fruits and nuts that it comes out great everytime. I have already shared this recipe with many of my friends who loved it. Thank You so much for sharing!

My husband requests that I have these on hand all of the time. I have made a few changes. I use quinoa flour instead. I use 3/4 cup of applesauce and 2 tablespoons of canola oil. I add 1/2 cup raisins, 1/2 cup dried blueberries, and 1/4 cup dried strawberries. I also add 1/4 cup of chopped walnuts. They stay very moist. My husband likes to have them at work, and we take them on our bikes rides for a healthy snack. The quinoa flour adds protein and the added fruit make them very nutritious. I have also made them with peanut butter, bananas, and chocolate chips for friends, but the fruit is my husbands favorite.

These are great! A very versatile recipe that comes out great every time. I like to use whole wheat flour and substitute applesauce for the oil. And I use less sugar and honey and add 2 packages of Quaker Simple Harvest Multigrain Cereal (oatmeal) in Maple, Brown Sugar and Pecan flavor for part of the 2 cups of oatmeal. It's delicious and adds another nutritional element which I very much appreciate as a mom!

This is a great recipe to play around with. Thank you so much for sharing. Few changes: I added soy protein powder instead of the all purpose flour to make it more protein healthy. Used 2 egg whites and omitted the yolk. Added 1/2 cup mini dark choc chips, 1/2 cup flax seed, 1/4 cup of sunflower seeds, 1/2 cup raisins. reduced the sugar to 1/4th cup but was still a little on the sweeter side for me. Will reduce that the next time. Also, I baked it for 25 mins and the bars were more on the crunchy side than chewy. May cut down the baking time next time. Overall a great great recipe! Thanks :) Update: These are still super and I make them so often. I reduced the oil to 1/4 cup and add 1/4-1/2 cup of apple sauce and bake only for 18 mins. They are chewy, almost cake-like. We love them. Thank you once again :)
