Very tasty - substituted ground turkey for ground beef and omitted the celery. Definitely need to soak beans longer, though.

I wanted some chili to put on top of fritos for frito pie, but that was not too hot for my 3 year old and tasty enough to be tempting. I don't really like pinto beans, but this mixture was really good. I just used several shakes of chili powder rather than the measured amount so it wouldn't be too hot. I also didn't add the vinegar as my husband has an uncanny way of smelling it when I use it. Also, I'd cooked the pinto beans before hand, so just added them to the mixture of beef with the tomatoes and let them all cook together. All of us loved this recipe! Thanks Sandy

I loved this recipe but I made a few modifications. I used 1 can of pinto beans and 1 can of dark red kidney beans (did not have 2 cans of pinto beans). I also did not have cidar vinegar but used red wine vinegar instead. I also used a can of chopped tomatoes with jalapenio peppers peppers instead of fresh. I also made this meal without any meat and it was fantastic and best of all fast. I think it took me 20 minutes from start to finish. Chopping included in that time.

I would give this 5 stars but i sampled it and it was a little bland so I added sauted garlic, garlic powder and extra cumin, I didn't think I would like the celery, but it was good , gave it sume more texture without overpowering celery flavor

OMG This is too good! I'm not a big chili fan but this is really, really good. I've made it twice now and the 1st time, not so good (following the recipe) because the beans weren't soft enough. The 2nd time I soaked them overnight & made the chili the next morning & then put it in the crockpot on low so it would be ready when we got home. It was a big hit with everyone. I did omit the celery & didn't make the quesadillas to go with it. Hubby & the kids loved it.

this is a really nice recipe, easy to prepare, worth the time. dont be deterred by the other reviewers speaking about too much heat or lack of heat. chili seasoning is a very personal thing, after you add the tomatoes there is still plenty of time to adjust the chili powder and cumin to your individual taste. the vinegar is awesome, this really adds to it. i just about doubled all the seasonings to get it to where it was hot enough for us. but we are portuguese descent and love our food hot!!! also, its great that this was written for using dried beans. i also got a box from angel food ministries and didnt know what to do with dried pinto beans. so nice to not have to buy a packet of premade seasoning for this recipe as mentioned in a few other 'award' winning recipes on this site. this is definately my new chili recipe, thanks!!!

Average chili recipe. Better than canned hormel, but not as good as stagg's canned chili. This chili is very average. Its almost like a base to modify off of. Im sure it would taste better if it was modified, but I cooked it as the recipe stated. The heat was great for me, but I think the chili amount might have other people gasping for water. So, if you cant handle hot, back off on the amount of chili powder. I thought it was just the right amount of meat to bean ratio. Just enough meat in my bowl for the amount of beans. Thickness came out right too. Not too watery, and not too dry. This is a fair recipe.

Very good chili. I'm a heat seeker, so I dipped out half of the chili and added three jalepeno's to mine, but my family loved it just the way it was. I loved my portion as well. Excellent recipe.

This chili receipe takes time but worth it. It was served at a potluck where I work. Everyone liked it and asked for the receipe.

I made a few modifications to this and it turned out great. I added LOTS of garlic while cooking the meat and onions. I used organic beef broth instead of water, and I added 2 4-oz cans of green chile peppers. Served it with homemade french bread with dill and this will be lunch for a few days!
