I didn't actually try this recipe, I just wanted the address the apple question of another review...I bake 10-12 apple pies a year and always use the same apple mixture: 2 large Granny Smith, 2 large Rome or Golden Delicious, and 2 misc. apples such as Gala or Fuji. The different textures and levels of sweetness really make the pie incredible. Also, I always thinly slice the apples and slightly overstuff the pie.

The apples tasted nice, but the filling was too watery and the pie fell apart as soon as I cut into it. Also, the crusts were soggy..maybe one should precook them first.

To answer the question for a sweeter pie..I always use Mcintosh apples. And it always turns out great!

Absolutely, this recipe produces the best apple pie that I have ever eaten! My husband could not wait to eat it after lunch and he ate a large slice before lunch today. Also, I did listen to the advice given by two reviewers in which they recommend to replace one of the two cups of white sugar for one cup of brown sugar. I also added a teaspoon of salt to the apple filling. Fantastic!

For Brooke 917 - mix granny smith and fuji apples. Fuji are bigger so its 2 to 1 for pie!

Excellent recipe! The only changes I made were to use one of those all ready rolled out pie crusts, I used a mix of granny smith and honey crisp apples, and when I egg washed the top crust, I sprinkled it with coarse white sugar. This is the only apple pie recipe I will use from here on out, the filling was perfect!!!!!

Two attempts at this and still trying. Both times I followed the recipe to a T and both times, it turned out beautiful. The only problem is I have not been happy with the taste of the apples. I do not like a tart apple pie. The first time I made it I used Jonathan...very tart. The second time, I used Granny Smith...a little better, but only because I doubled the sugar content. Can anyone tell me the right apple to use for a sweet apple pie??? I was so disappointed to have beautiful pies almost too pretty to even cut, only to taste how tart it was and have to pitch the whole thing!

DELICIOUS! I usually forgo making the crust and buy the ready-made roll out type and it works just as well. I also use a combination of different apples and slice them thin. Make sure you let the pie sit for a few hours after removing it from the oven - has a tendancy to be a bit watery inside if you don't let it sit long enough. I love this recipe and make it often. Yum!

I have no idea what I did wrong... I'm always careful to follow new recipes to the "T"... But... My crust was so dry it was falling apart. I had to piece it together to cover the bottom of my pie pan, and it looked horrible when I put it on the top in pieces... The filling tastes fine, but the crust even after baking was not what it should have been... I will use this recipe again, but maybe just buy a crust. My husband loved it, but thought I was going crazy crying over a pie crust lol... Good recipe, I just can't figure it out.

Not even sure if I've rated this before... but I have made this in the past and gave it to my boyfriend's family. He left for a few days and told me he never got to try it. So, since today I'm bored I went hunting for a pie recipe and realized that I've made this one. So i figured I might as well thank you :)

I put the yolk into the pie mixture because the apple from my tree tend to be very juicy! I rubbed the top crust with butter and then baked it! It was great! This will be my new recipe for sure!

Easy and delicious, this recipe is great! I did have to tweak the amount of water for the crust, 4 tablespoons was not enough. I ended up using 8 and it was perfect. This was my first time making apple pie from scratch and thanks to this recipe it won't be my last!

This recipe was SOOO good!!! I did make a few changes though...we didn’t have any apples so I used a quart of homemade applesauce. I had to add an extra ¼ c. flour to thicken it just a little. I also didn’t use the egg yolk and water on the crust...After I pulled it from the oven I spread just a little bit of melted butter on it and then sprinkled it with just a little white sugar...all I can say was it was DELICIOUS!!

the name says it all. it is a perfect apple pie. I hadn't made a pie in years. this year I got a bumper crop of apples, so I made this recipe for a church function, was a little nervous, but the pie was a hugh hit.
