When made exactly as the recipe states, these cookies are great! Unfortunately, I learned the hard way that you cannot add crushed candy canes to the egg white mixture when it is beating, because the peppermint oil in the candy will make the meringue go "flat." This happened to my first batch; what a mess! My second batch turned out perfectly; I added a little red food coloring and piped them into star shapes. They looked beautiful this way, and taste great. I will make these again!

Very easy recipe. I added a couple drops of peppermint extract and some mini chocolate chips and they were absolutely wonderful.

An awful lot of work when you're doing it by hand, but it was worth it. Mine were just a little bit too thick still when I cooked them, but I liked the resulting texture. Next time, I won't bother with the peppermint. It didn't add in my opinion, and I instead gobbled up the half dozen or so that I left plain.
