Raspberry Dessert with Vanilla Sauce

'This delicious fruity dessert comes from my German background,' notes Marie Baumgartner from her kitchen in Stoughton, Wisconsin. 'Mom always called it 'Rote Gr252;tz'. We had a large raspberry patch, so she served it often in summer, when fresh berries were in season.'

I'm a retired home economist who loves to make desserts and share them with family and friends. To easily cut this dessert, first dip a sharp knife in warm water, dry it, then slice. --Lucile Cline, Wichita, Kansas

It simply wouldn't be Christmas in our family without this old-fashioned dessert. Cool and creamy, it looks beautiful drizzled with the tart raspberry sauce.

This golden, glossy delight could not be easier to make. All major varieties of pears - Bartlett, Bosc, red, Anjou - work equally well. However, Bosc roasts up slightly firmer than the others.

This is a great dessert for a fancy party or a girl's night in! I love pears, and I love this recipe, because lighting the rum on fire caramelizes the sugar, and pulls out the flavor of the pears. I served this dish to a rich couple and got a hefty tip back, so I figured it must have been good!

Fresh or frozen raspberries folded into a thick strawberry glaze turn a boxed cake mix into a festive finale to any meal. My husband isn't a chocolate fan, so this is a great substitute. I'm often asked for the recipe.

This tender marinated chicken gets a hint of sweetness when drizzled with a fruity sauce. I strain the mashed raspberries since our kids don't like the seeds. It's always a hit with rice pilaf and a salad. --Amy Ammann of Long Valley, New Jersey

Superb Cranberry Sauce with Apples and Pears

This cranberry sauce has extra spices, diced fruits, and orange juice added to make it more exciting than plain old cranberries. Everyone always loves this at Thanksgiving and it disappears fast! It's best when made the night before and left to rest in the refrigerator overnight so all the flavors can blend together.
