I made this for my dad for Veteran's Day and he really enjoyed it. I had frosting already, so I used that instead of whipped cream. Will definitely make it again.

We loved this! The cake was super moist and the cool whip topping was a nice change from buttercream. The kids liked that the cake was red, white and blue. Good cake for the 4th of July. We decorated the top with strawberries and blueberries.

This was good cake, but nothing spectacular. I did like the look of the cake with the colored layers. I've never been a fan of plain whipped cream on cake so I followed Christine suggestions for adding the Cool Whip to vanilla pudding. That was definitely a good choice. This wouldn't be my first choice for a cake recipe based on the taste, but I would make it again for the visual appeal.

Everyone loved this cake...the darn store was out of white cake mix so I used cherry chip mix with berry jello for both layers..yummm!!! I also followed a previous members suggestion and made the yummy coolwhip frosting that has the vanilla jello...yummm again!!! I topped mine with strawberries and blueberries to look like a flag..it was a big hit and i should have made two!!!

DJDEMARCO commented that the cool whip was an insubstantial frosting for this layer cake; I completely agree. Allrecipes.com has a awesome and simple and refreshing Cool Whip Frosting recipe: all you do is beat together 1 box instant vanilla pudding + 1 C. Milk + 1 tsp. Vanilla, and then fold in 1 tub of Cool Whip. Voila! It's that easy. And if you'd like, you could even add a tint of food coloring. :D

This cake turned out good and I was worried that no one would try it over all the other desserts but it went well. I used strawberry and blueberry jell-o flavors. And instead of cool whip, I used betty crocker whipped cream frosting and it was pretty delicious. Inexpensive to make, probably would do it again.

This cake tasted ok, nothing special about it. It was very cute and patriotic for our 4th of July picnic, but I don't think I'll be making it again.

This is a perfect summer recipe. Not too heavy and refreshing. My family thought it was really good. They don't like frosting that is too sweet. The cool whip was perfect. I used sugar free jello and light cool whip.

I made this for an office 'Patriotic Luncheon'. Nothing special about the flavor of the cake. It is a very moist cake. A little too sweet for me. I definitely would recommend using another type of icing (or a more substantial whipped cream icing) as the top layer slides very easily.
