I made this salad for a USO dinner this weekend, and it was a huge hit! Not only did it look spectacular, but it tasted delicious, too. I followed the recipe exactly as written.

I've made it a couple of times since 4th of July 2009.. when each layer has thickened but not completely set , I add blueberries to the blue layers and strawberry slices to the red layers. I also get the star red white and blue marshmallows and strategically placed in each layer as it sets (along with the fruit). It looks very cute and the family loved it, especially my very health conscious cousin who never eats anything. Did the same thing with red/green gelatin and Christmas marshmallows.

I made this for the 4th. As a relatively young cook (22), I was a bit intimidated. It does take a lot of time, but I followed the tip on freezing it and it went much faster. Tasted great, the cream layers add a lot to it. I would make this again, but only once in a while.

Definitely fun to look at (despite a layer sliding out from under...) but not something I'll make again. Was basically a labor-intensive, glorified jello - would go over great with a jello-loving crowd, but the frosted banana bars (from this site) that I decorated to look like American flags with red stripes and blueberries were much easier, tastier and gobbled up.

It looks great but even my kids weren't wild about the taste. I thought the creamy layer would give it more sparkle but it disappointed me even though I added twice the vanilla the recipe called for. My two-year-old left hers mostly uneaten on her plate and went back instead for more carrots and celery!

Takes like a standard molded jello salad. However, it's a show stopper when you turn it out of the mold on the 4th of July! I made it for a family reuinion over the 4th, and I was accused of being an "overacheiver". It's time consuming, but can be made ahead of time, and isn't difficult.

Family reunion everyone loved this one! This is the 3rd time I made this. It takes almost 3 hrs to do.Don't look at the prep and ready time.I put it in the freezer for a quick set and I do let it setup completely in between layers. That way you don't get the bubbles when you pour layers in
