Directions

  1. Preheat an oven to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C).
  2. Stir together the luncheon meat, processed cheese, relish, and salad dressing in a bowl. Spoon the filling into the sandwich buns, and wrap each sandwich individually in aluminum foil. Place the sandwiches onto a baking sheet.
  3. Bake in the preheated oven until the filling is hot, and the buns have toasted, 10 to 15 minutes.

This is almost identical to the "spamwitches" my grandpa & grandma used to make! The only thing different was grandpa liked Tabasco in his and they didn't use relish. I will be trying your recipie soon!

I've been a Spam lover since I was a child, so I'm always looking for something new to do with it. I sliced and browned the Spam before I cubed it because I thought that would enhance it's flavor. I was surprised that the rolls crisped because I thought they'd get soggy. That was a plus. On the other hand, I'd say the sandwiches were only so-so. If I made them again I'd leave the browned Spam slices intact and use less cheese. I thought the cheese and relish flavor overwhelmed the flavor of the Spam.

Love these sandwiches! My family calls them Garbage Sandwiches. They are great the next day too!

I made a cuban sandwich out of it. I used fresh baked bread, spam slices, swiss cheese, pickle slices, mayo w/ roasted garlic or sour OJ (oj w/ a touch of lime juice), butter both sides of sandwich and toast in either a sandwich taster or frying pan. put something heavy on sandwich to flatten it & well toasted. its great tasting

Good heavens, I haven't seen a version of this recipe in ages! My mother made this but shredded the Spam and used cream of mushroom soup, no relish or mayo. Sometimes she spread it on bread and put in the oven for open face sandwiches. Probably set the oven at 350. We loved it both ways. This was probably 55+ years ago. I'm only giving it a 3 because I haven't had it since I was a kid and I think it may be a bit salty for my taste now. I may have to give it a try though.
