I made a bunch of changes... but I've giving the recipe some stars for being a good starting point. 1) started with cooking chopped onion, minced garlic in olive oil. 2)Added a tube of soy chorizo that I found in the Mex grocery store that I just had to try. 3) Added can toms, ~4cups chicken stock, 5oz frozen spinach, thyme, dried italian seasoning. Boiled. 4) Added orzo, boiled, simmer for ~10min 5) Then added 1/2 lb shrimp for ~1 min 6) Salt and pepper to taste. I prefer leafy greens in soup to broccoli.

This recipe has become a favorite but I also had to make a few changes. I didn't have enough broccoli the first time, so I threw in some mixed vegetables. The dish was good but needed some bigger flavors. I added a half cup of white wine, half cup more of orzo, and a can of chopped clams with liquid. Amazing taste!

So I had leftover broccoli from my 7-year-old's birthday party (who knew the kids wouldn't go for the veggie platter?), a bag of frozen shrimp sitting in my freezer since forever, orzo from my orzo-and-feta-cheese-salad phase earlier in the summer and a truckload of tomatoes from a wild u-pick expedition a couple of weekends back. What to do, what to do? Find the perfect Orzo Shrimp Stew recipe to use everything up?! Yes! I love simple recipes like this one where the ingredients just come together so beautifully. So...what I did different: -used Vegeta (chicken bouillon powder), instead of broth (because I'm Eastern European like that) -used fresh overripe tomatoes instad of canned -added orzo a few minutes before the veggies What I did wrong: -still learning to use my peppermill:milled pepper is a lot stronger than regular pepper - sorry kids. -stew or not stew? Indeed, this isn't really a stew, more of a watery finished product. Would use a bit less liquid next time. *****

I thought this recipe was very flavorful. I made it as written but could see very tweeking it with the vegetables. The family vote was that this was a keeper

This is a great base recipe to do whatever you want. You could probably try bacon & spinach, chicken & veggies, etc. and they would all be good! I didn't have the problem of there not being enough water, so I recommend following the amounts and only adding water if necessary. I also added garlic... I agree with other advice to wait to add the veggies, according to how mushy (or not) you like them.

love this meal! I've made this several times and has become a great go-to soup anytime of the week. I do use veggie broth instead of chicken and add a touch more than the recipe calls for. I also add red pepper flakes to spice it up a bit. The orzo really adds a nice texture and compliments all the ingreditents. delish!

Very simple, tasty, weeknight meal! My husband raved about this. I didn't have enough broccoli so I added peas and it went together just great. The only other thing I added was some garlic salt. Will definitely make again!

Only fair. It is quick and easy but the flavors just were not quite right.
