Open-Faced Pizza Burgers
SUBMITTED BY:
Sharon Schwartz
"I'm not sure where I first saw this recipe, but I'm glad I did! My family requests these burgers often. A dash of oregano livens up canned pizza sauce. - Sharon Schwartz, Burlington, Wisconsin"

DIRECTIONS
In a large skillet, cook beef and onion over medium heat until the meat is no longer pink; drain. Stir in pizza sauce, mushrooms, sugar and oregano; mix well. Spoon onto buns; sprinkle with mozzarella cheese. Place on ungreased baking sheets. Broil 4 in. from the heat for 2 minutes or until the cheese is melted.
FOOTNOTE
It's easy to freeze Open-Faced Pizza Burgers for quick lunches later. Place the split and toasted buns on a baking sheet. Spoon the meat mixture onto buns; freeze for 1 hour. Transfer to heavy-duty resealable plastic bags or airtight containers. To reheat, thaw, sprinkle with cheese and broil until cheese is melted.

Not only did my kids love this but my husband & I loved it as well. I will certainly make this again. I added diced pepperoni to the ground beef/onion while it was browning. It made a great addition.

This recipe was great! I added some diced up bologna to it and it tasted just like what my mom would make growing up. My co-workers and son loved it!

My family really seemed to love this - however I felt it a little bland. I will try to use a spicier sauce the next time I make it.

This is kind of like an Italian sloppy joe! Great for those nights when you need to make something quick. The meat could even be browned ahead of time which would get you out of the house even faster. I added seasonings to the sauce, diced green bell pepper, left out the sugar and served on Italian rolls. Good Sharon and thanks!
