This is a good, slightly above average (i.e. not your "basic" pork n' beans) recipe. While I enjoyed this, I still think I am going to continue my search for the perfect recipe, but until I find it, this will do. Took a big batch of this to a BBQ Sunday night. I appreciate Lorna's advice and followed most her suggestions to the letter except for frying my bacon with my beef/onions as directed (I prefer my bacon to be less crisp in this instance) and cooking everything in my well greased (I've had problems with chili burning in it before...) slow cooker on high for the first hour and then for two hours on low (due to time constraints - I only had a few hours to prepare several dishes for a freind's BBQ/cookout). I found that using the full amount of brown sugar called for and subbing half the amount of brown sugar for regular granulated sugar wasn't a good move for me. I like my pork & beans sweet, so I'll use Kathy's suggested amounts next time. My beans had a very nice hickory accent which I enjoyed (I used a generic store brand hickory BBQ sauce that I wanted to clear out of my fridge). Overall, this is a nice recipe. My fiance didn't care for this, but he doesn't like beans anyways (argh!!!). If you like beans, you should definitely give it a try though! Thanks for sharing with us Kathy :)
