I found this recipe to be somewhere between a taffy and a hard candy. It was firmer than taffy but not as hard as hard candy. It was delicious though. I didn't change a thing.

thanks for putting this online! I tried it with some of my friends. we had a lot of fun but i don't think we pulled it enough (it was still really dark). I was the only one who liked it cause it was really strong but I think it was really fun. so this is to all you candy makers ... ...when they said pull til light brown you might want to! Cheers to great times!

We've never made candy before, but this recipe was easy. Even without a candy thermometer, it was delicious. Next time we will try a candy thermometer as ours hardened a little quicker than we would have liked, probably because we were trying to make sure the ball was really hard! My daughters and I had fun making it for a party and the kids all loved it!

I'm from Springhill Nova Scotia, As a kid growing up in Canada and later Needham Mass, my father would make molasses candy every Halloween...that was before the day when people tamped with the candy they gave kids.... Kids would rave about my father's candy and even come back for more.... to my chagrin :( Harl

My husband said that they taste like his aunt's popcorn balls, but with out the popcorn. Perhaps if there was popcorn, they would be better. Neither us were especially excited about them.
