No applesauce? No problem! Just use frozen (defrosted) bananas instead! Add extra for the tasty banana flavour.

Great flavor. I used my food processor to blend up old fashioned oatmeal so it was fine. I added 1/4 cup applesauce, 1/4 tsp ground cloves, 2 tsp cinnamon, dash of allspice, 4 tsp baking powder(left out soda, 2 Tb molasses and 1 cup all purpose flour and 2 Tb oil. This made for made for great belgium waffles.

Great texture, excellent, healthy recipe! Kids and I loved them. I just topped with honey. Also added pumpkin pie spice and a couple tsps. of vanilla to batter. Make sure to cook close to Max. heat, otherwise mine were sticking. Made about 6-7 large round waffles (with 4 quarters). I love to freeze and pop in the toaster later.

Without a doubt, the best waffle/pancake recipe I have found yet! Kids love them as well, both as waffles and pancakes. I use honey instead of molasses and also add almost 1 TBSP of gluten for a little more "fluffiness". Very healthy, very tasty. Definite keeper!

Delicious! We're used to using white flour or Bisquick and we love these. They're best when the batter is made the night before, so the oatmeal has time to get soft and blend in better. Throw in some flax meal and they'll be even healthier.

Mmmm, very good! I used 1 cup skim milk, 1 cup nonfat plain yogurt in place of the buttermilk since I keep those on hand and they work just as well. Taking other reviewer's advice I added 1 Tbs gluten and 1 tsp vanilla. I didn't add a full tablespoon of molasses because I was afraid it would be overpowering; about half was nice. I used quick-cooking steel cut oats and the results were flavorful with a nice texture. Next I might try old-fashioned oats to attain a chunkier texture. Topped with maple pumpkin butter, these were delicious and I shall certainly make them again.

I,too, on the recommendation of others added a tsp of cinnamon. I also added a tsp of almond flavoring and since I didn't have buttermilk, made my own (1 tbsp. vinegar in a 1 cup measure, fill with fat free milk) and I used 1 cup of all-purpose flour. These waffles were good without any topping but I served them with a choice of homemade pear preserves, sugar-free maple syrup, marscapone cheese and/or pumpkin butter. I tried a bite of each and they are delicious with anything. I love that it has very little fat in it and incorporates oatmeal, that you can't taste is there, for a healthier end product. Thanks for sharing this recipe.

Stuck everywhere on my waffle maker. Gave up and made pancakes, but not much flavor. There are better recipes out there.

These were really good- they were incredibly light and fluffy, with a great texture inside and perfect crispness outside. I was surprised just how light and airy they were. They are not at all heavy like one reviewer said. I used honey instead of molasses (don't like moldasses and don't keep it on hand) and I liked that flavor. I also used whole wheat pastry flour. I also made my own buttermilk with lemon juice and milk. They stuck to the waffle iron badly- have to grease or spray it before every waffle. The batter is really thin too, let it stand 1 or 2 minutes before using and it will thicken up a little. Nice recipe!

I can't believe I have not rated this yet! These are delicious and very healthy. Who would have thought that you can make pancakes/waffles with oatmeal? This is my staple pancake recipe. My kids didn'tlike the oatmeal taste at first but they got used to it! I told them they need to eat healthier. Thanks for posting this fabulous recipe!

These are delicious, healthy waffles! I used Whole Wheat Pastry Flour - it is less dense than regular ww flour. I had no buttermilk, so I added 2 T vinigar to enough skim milk to make 2 c. I also added 1 tsp vanilla and some cinnimon; I'll add some flax meal next time too. I love the texture of these waffles, but I did need to add less batter to the machine than with other recipes. I wanted to freeze some for later, but there were none left. Thanks for the recipe Francis!

Very tasty! Even the kids liked them. We added 2 splenda packets, substituted yogurt for the oil, and skim milk for the buttermilk. Healthy, hearty breakfast!
