Yum, Yum! I used butter for the shortening and added 1/4 less chocolate chips than suggested - and there was still a great chocolate taste. The oatmeal does add that chewy quality - well liked by all in my family.

Used butter, to avoid the transfats, and texture as well as taste were great. flaky, soft and melt in your mouth good.

I added a bit of vanilla as well, and did half choc. chips and half peanutbutter chips. Good tasting cookies. Cut bake time down to 11 minutes if you don't want crispy cookies. Thanks for sharing!

OUT OF THIS WORLD! The quickest best recipe I have found. I added vanilla, which is why I only rated this four stars. Try using half chocolate chips and half peanut butter chips. Awesome!

This really is a great recipe. I did make one teeny tiny change, by adding 1 tsp of vanilla, and instead of using two cups of semi-sweet chocolate chips. I used one cup of semi-sweets and one cup of milk chocolate chips. I liked them so much that I ended up making two batches, one with walnuts and one without. Everyone loved these cookies and have been asking me to make more. Thank you Sheryl Juergensen!

Wow, these were terrible! The cookie dough would not stick, so the chocolate chips kept falling off and the oats wouldn't stick either. The cookies came out of the oven the same size I had put them in, they never flattened even when I did so before baking them. I will never make these again.

I substituted the shortening for butter, everything else was the same. They turned out fantastic! I made them for a work pot luck and they were a huge hit.

MMMMMM. I used butter and added a splash of vanilla, another handful of oats and half the chocolate chips! Lot's of changes but it's just the way I like my choc chip oatmeal cookies. I'm glad I found this recipe because it is a great starting point for oatmeal cookies. I will be adding this to my recipe box! Yummy!

Too much Crisco!! Woah! These were tasty, but I think they would've been better with more oatmeal, less crisco. I followed the recipe exactly, which turned out to be a mistake. Oh, well. Still edible.

I followed some of the recommendations from earlier reviewers and used 1/2 cup of whole wheat flour, 1/2 cup of butter and 1/2 of shortening, and added 1 tsp each of cinnamon and vanilla. The batter tasted AMAZING, but the cookies spread so thin and flat that I couldn't even lift some of them off the cookie sheet without them falling apart. I started by following some recommendations and baked them for 10 minutes, then took them out and left them on the tray for a few more minutes, but many of the cookies were still uncooked in the middle several minutes later. I ended up putting them back in for a few more minutes of baking. I will serve some of the less ugly cookies to my guests today and save the uglier ones for my family (they still taste fine!). I guess I will have to keep looking for a dense, chewy cookie recipe.

Like other people, I added 1 tsp. of vanilla, along with the eggs. The tsp. of water is very helpful if you find the mix too dry. Otherwise, they are delicious and I have a hard time keeping them around. My sister-in-law keeps them all to herself, not sharing with her husband or young son!
