I couldn't help it, I changed a couple of things. For starters, instead of water I used the morning coffee. I also added a tsp of cinnamon. I added a little more cocoa powder. I didnt add any nuts, but a review said it was good served warm with ice cream, so I got some butter pecan to go with it.

I have made this cake 3 times now. first time I followed recipe as is. Second time I add 1 tablespoon cocoa and 2 tablespoon flour. Third time I add 3 tablespoons of cocoa and 2 tablespoons of flour which now is chocolate enough for my family. This cake is now one that I will be making often for my chocolate eaters.

Wonderful. Moist. Doesn't need frosting. Took to Father's Day to Gloes 2011.

WOW! I never would have believed how rich and moist this cake could be until I tried it myself! AMAZING! Here's a variation that we also loved - I used 1 cup whole wheat flour and 3/4 cup of white flour. We really REALLY like chocolate at our house, so I added in 4 tablespoons of cocoa. We also like German lebkuchen, which is a bit spicey - so I mixed in 3 tablespoons of cinnamon. Then I used only 1/4 cup of margarine instead of 1/2 - and then added in 1/2 cup of apple sauce to replace the margarine and add a bit more moisture to compensate for the dry cocoa and cinnamon. Because the batter was so chocolatey from the cocoa, I only used half a bag of chocolate chips, and no one missed the other half. Since this adaptation added in whole wheat on top of the whole grain oats, and had only half the fat of the original version - I could delude myself into thinking that it was practically a health food - hahaha!

I increased the cocoa powder measurement to a TBS, and added a tsp of vanilla extract. This cake was nice and moist, and tasted DELICIOUS!!!
