Oatmeal Chocolate Chip Cake
SUBMITTED BY:
Luanne Thomson
"I first started making this cake when my husband was stationed with the military in California. Now, 20 years later, I've prepared it all across the country and in Germany. Chocolate lovers especially rave about this recipe!"

I made this tonight, and it was very good. I used slightly less white sugar than called for, and it was perfect for us. I used chocolate/caramel swirl chips, and added walnuts. I was expecting an oatmeal-colored/tan colored cake, but this is really darker than that. It looks chocolate colored, although the chocolate flavor is mild. One note: When I prepared the batter and poured it into the pan, I had to go back to re-read the recipe. I was sure I had done something wrong, as the batter was very thin. I was sure this cake would not turn out, but it baked up wonderfully.

This recipe is a winner (literally)! I entered it in an oatmeal festival and it won 2nd place! Instead of sprinkling the chocolate chips on top, I melted them and poured it on top. Once it cooled in the refridgerator, I spread raspberry jam on top and added fresh raspberries and sliced almonds. Very delicious!!

Yum! Moist and chocolatey! I used a mixer b/c the butter didn't melt all the way. I also used part wholewheat flour and added 1/2 cup of raisins. You can't even taste them.

This is so good!!!!! I added more chocolate powder than adviced and used pecans instead of walnuts since that's what I had. I loved this an so did the family. I also liked that it snuck in oatmeal to make it a little healthier than chocolate cake.

My family ate the entire cake in 24 hours. I left out the nuts due to personal preferances. I will definately make this again.

I love this recipe!! I used a whole tablespoon of cocoa and, next time, would bake it 35 minutes instead of 40- but this was wonderful and I will make it often.

Great tasting cake!! Also very easy to make. Anything with an entire package of chocolate chips is going to be good. Will make this again - it is practically health food since it contains oatmeal, right?

I love this cake! I have to be careful about how often I make it because I could eat half of it myself! The only change I make is that I don't add walnuts (I don't like them). This is a very good recipe if you like oatmeal.
