This made a really good moist banana bread. I did substitute 1/2 cup applesauce for the shortening, used whole wheat flour, and Splenda instead of the sugar. Since I've got a convection oven I dropped the temp to about 150C (300F) and reduced the cooking time by 10 minutes. I'll make it again, but next time I think I'll make it in muffin form!

This is the best recipe for banana bread that I have ever tasted. I made a double batch - one loaf of bread and 12 muffins. I exchanged pecans for the walnuts (like those better!) and made a cinnamon/oatmeal/brown sugar topping for the bread and muffins. This is the only banana bread recipe you'll ever need. Excellent!

Well i liked this one. I changed it a bit though. I changed the shortening to butter, sugar to sweetener and i added mixed nuts and raisins. I did not crush the nuts. they were OK as is almonds were whole. I had more than the recommended amount of bananas but i put them in any way it made a bit more with no obvious problems that i could see. lol

I am so shocked at how delicious this bread came out! I followed some recommendations to make it a little healthier and was afraid it would make it not so good. It was between this bread and another 'unhealthy' recipe on this site and I picked this one b/c of the oats.I used 1/2 whole wheat flour and 1/2 all purpose. I used LIGHT Smart Balance instead of shortening. I used brown sugar instead of white (I was out of white). I used 3 large very ripe (almost black) bananas. I added 1 tsp of cinnamon and 1 Tbsp wheat germ. I also only had pecans. I made the recommended oats/brown sugar/cinnamon topping and sprinkled it before going into the oven (at 300 for 70 min). This made it pretty, good and different, but don't feel it was necessary for this to be good. This bread is SOOO moist, SOO flavorful and a great texture for banana bread-not too cake-y not too dense. This will be my basic banana bread recipe from now on. Pretty healthy and delicious...what a great combo!

I just made this tonight and it is wonderful. I did use half white and half brown sugar and sprinkled walnuts, cinnamon, and sugar on the top. I also used closer to 1 1/2 c. bananas. I made four mini loaves and they turned out great. Try this recipe!!

My husband ate about 1/2 this banana bread and asked for more. My granddaughter, a finicky eater, scarfed it down. Although I had only regular rolled oats, it came out just fine. I already have plans for making this again tomorrow.

Very good! I didn't have walnuts but used dried sunflower seeds instead. My husband loved it!

This bread was a tasty as my usual banana bread, but much healthier. I would definately add spices next time, vanilla and cinnamon. People that tried it said that you could really taste the banana. Also I put 2 tablespoons of wheat germ in it which was good.

The best banana bread I've ever made and I've made a lot. Very moist. I made it with 3 bananas, 1/2 white 1/2 brown sugar and 1/2 white 1/2 whole wheat flour. And sprinkled cinnamon sugar on top from another's suggestion. It was delicious. Thanks for sharing!

I made this just as it says and I was only slightly disappointed. It was a little more dry than I expected, and the banana flavor didnt stick out to me. So I would suggest a bit more banana. Maybe like a a cup and a half. (3 large bananas vs. 2)

My husband and daughter LOVE this. I doubled the recipe and used 1 1/2 cups of banana for each loaf. I substituted chocolate mini-chips for the nuts since my family does not like nuts in their banana bread (although I do :-)).

Very good bread just to munch on during the day. Definately reccomend using an electric beater for the shortening and sugar. I almost killed my forearms trying to mix everything together. At least the bread was well worth it =)

I subbed margarine for the shortening. I made 2 loaves and pressed blueberries into one. I thought it was a little flavorless, even with the blueberries and extra sugar sprinkled on it. However, I like that it has oatmeal in to, and I will make again, but I will add vanilla or extra spices for flavor.
