I have been making these cookies for 28 years. I need to be honest for all of you considering making these. I and my family love them, but they are not for everyone. They are a very dense hard like cookie. If you like a firm cookie with coffee these are for you. If you're looking for something delicate that melts in your mouth, look else where. Do not make them without the frosting, put on ruffly then sprinkle with nutmeg to give them that log like look.

Nice delicate flavor - almost like a shortbread texture, but with a nice nutmeggy taste. I got about 40 cookies from this recipe. One thing I wished I had done - I made them for Christmas cookies, and I wish I had rolled them in colored sugar for a festive touch!
