Herbed Yeast Bread

One year I gave away these savory loaves instead of sweet treats. Our friends so enjoyed the change of pace that they were disappointed when they didn't receive this bread the next year. I haven't let them down since!

Homemade bread can be time-consuming, difficult and tricky to make. But this fun-to-eat 'monkey bread', baked in a fluted tube pan, is easy and almost foolproof. If I'm serving it for breakfast, I add some cinnamon and drizzle it with icing. -Pat Stevens, Granbury, Texas

We like this chewy, hearty bread as a substitute for white bread with holiday meals and at breakfast. My five children are grown but still live within 'eating distance', so I often bake it in large quantities.

This recipe has been handed down for four generations. Whenever I make this, it takes me back to when I was a young girl on Grandpa's farm. We loved to toast it and smother it with honey.
