This was super easy and tasted great. The celery was the biggest surprise for me :) It was so good and gave the beef a wonderful smell and flavor. I followed the recipe to the letter until I got to the brown sugar. I read the other reviews and thought I'd play it by taste to see what it might need instead of just giving it the full 1/4 c. I'm so glad I waited it didn't need it at all. My hubby commented that it was sweet but over all he really liked it and it was a definate hit with the kids. I'm really excited this was the 1st time I didn't use a canned sloppy joe mix, and I don't think I will ever again. Thanks!

I think this recipe called for too much brown sugar. My family all commented on the sweetness. I suggest cutting back a bit. Otherwise, it was still very good.

My husband being Scottish born and bred had never had a sloppy joe before. Now he never stops asking for them! Very nice recipe just like when I was a kid!

I came across this when I was ready to add "the can" of sauce and realized I didn't have one. My husband loved it and now asks me to make it instead of buying the sauce. The only thing I changed was not adding the celery. We don't like celery. Great recipe!

This recipe is good, but I made a few changes. First, I used 1 lb of ground sirloin which was enough for 6 sloppy joes. I think 2 lbs will give you 12 or more. I cut the brown sugar in half and added Malt Vinegar instead of white distilled and I really like it. I also left out the celery and added crushed red pepper, paprika, parsley and fresh garlic instead of powdered [which I cooked with the meat]. I also toasted onion rolls in the broiler. Yum!

This is the recipe we have been using since I was a kid. I use a couple of cloves of garlic, skip the salt and brown sugar. I always serve it open face on toast or toasted buns. Sometimes put a slice of American Cheese on top for the kids.

This was a fast and easy recipe. I didn't use celery and it still tasted great. I would prefer a bit more spice, instead of it being so sweet.

Great recipe for Sloppy Joes. I reduced the amount of celery to about 1/2 cup, used white wine vinegar, and added lots of fresh ground pepper. I also added about 1/4 cup of bbq sauce but I think it would taste fine without it too.

Soooo much better than the canned stuff! Didn't have any tomato soup on hand so I substituted with 1/2 c. tomato sauce & 1/2 c. ketchup. Simple recipe with down home comfort goodness. Thanks!

This is very good. If you're looking for a canned knock off minus the green pepper, though, this isn't it - it's much lighter, not as strongly tomato-y. I used bbq sauce isntead of ketchup, cut the brown sugar to 1 tbsp, and grated the veggies instead of chopping - I think I might try adding in carrot next time. I also added in a tbsp or two of dijon. We'll definitely make it again - even my youngest, the diehard chicken nugget child, said it was good, and actually ate a whole sandwich.

Even though this was very good, I personally prefer a little heat in my food. The next time I make this, I may add some hot sauce but overall this was very good and will be making this quite often.

First, I followed the recipe exactly, except that I added fresh garlic. I was not at all impressed with the flavor. I had to add nearly a jar of Bennetts Chili sauce, and bunch of other spices to get a more flavorful sloppy joe. Obviously a lot of people like this, but it wasn't for me.
