Directions

  1. Place potatoes in a large pot and cover with salted water; bring to a boil. Reduce heat to medium-low and simmer until tender, 20 to 25 minutes. Drain.
  2. Mash potatoes with a potato masher or an electric mixer on Low in a bowl until smooth.
  3. Heat butter and half-and-half in a small saucepan over medium heat until butter is melted and half-and-half is warmed, 3 to 5 minutes.
  4. Mash or beat butter mixture, salt, black pepper, and garlic powder into mashed potatoes until potatoes are light and fluffy. Stir additional half-and-half, 1 tablespoon at a time, into potatoes for creamier consistency.

I used fat free half-n-half and I increased the garlic powder to a full teaspoon. These mashed potatoes were fluffy and delicious--they remind me of the potatoes Grandma used to make.

Love this recipe! My guests for St. Patrick's Day loved this as well! I only made one change to the original recipe- I substituted minced garlic for the garlic powder. This potatoes were easy and so creamy! I've tried other mashed potato recipes in the past that guests liked, but this takes the cake! This recipe will be the only one I use from now on!

so yummy ..I like to use an electric mixer on creamed potatoes ..so light and fluffy. Thank You for the recipes ..also.heavy cream made them so flavorful!

Awesome recipe! I doubled both the garlic and pepper and used it to top a very lightly seasoned shepherds pie :) it was a big hit with the family and will def be put into our regular rotation
