Similar to our 40 year old recipe! We use only 1/2 cup butter for bottom layer, a 9 x13 inch pan, instant vanilla pudding mix and 2 cups chips & 4 TBS for top layer. A holiday tradition! And teacher appreciation gift!!!!

Delicious! They are easy to make and yet taste so rich and decadent, unlike alot of quick, no-bake desserts using packaged ingredients. These would be perfect at christmas-time, can't wait to make them again! PS They are the best using pistachio pudding!

I remembered making these with my mom when I was younger, so I was very happy to see this recipe here. Thank you so much for posting it! I think these are a fabulous and addictive candy which really adds to a mixed tray. I made them last year and am going to make them again this week. I do seem to remember needing to make a bit more of the chocolate topping than the recipe called for, but will update when I remake them. Also, these are quite hard to cut when chilled, so I keep warming the knife with water then drying it before each cut. Give this one a try if you haven't already.

I love this recipe. My mom used to make it all the time for their Christmas open house using vanilla pudding mix. They are quite easy to make, but tend to use every dish in the house and take considerbly longer than the 25 minutes (according to the recipe)to finish. They are known as Nanimo Bars in Canada and were reportedly first made there by an inventive Canadian mother!

i loved the idea of these, but i chose to change a few things. Instead of the pudding inside, since i'm not a fan, i used 1 (8 oz.) package of cream cheese, 1 cup confectioners' sugar, and 1 small tub of cool whip. I mixed those three things together and used that in the middle instead of the pudding mixture. Other than that, the top and bottom were both delightful, and my little change went very well with them.
