People keep making this recipe harder than it is. 1 can beef consomme', 1 can French onion soup, 1 cup Basmati rice, a few pats of butter or margarine on top. Stick it in the oven for 1 hr. at 350. You don't have to cover the dish and I guess you could add a small jar of mushrooms. This is the first recipe my mom taught me.

Very good, I used 2 cans of beef broth, because I didn't have the french onion soup, & reg. rice because I was out of brown. The brown probably adds a nuttier flavor so I will definatly be trying this again with it. Thanks for the great recipe! :)

The first time I made this it was wonderful! I made it again and it was awful. The only thing I can think of that was different was the brand of rice I used.

This recipe was ok...a bit bland for me but adjustments can be made. I started the recipe just as stated and half way through the day had to add more water because it was smelling burnt (luckily I was home!) I added another 2 cups! It also took about 12 hours to cook the rice rather than 7-8...maybe it was because it ran out of water? SO I had to scramble for something else for dinner. I'll probably try it again but will definately be making changes.
