These are really good! They bake up well, are chewy in the center and crispy on the outside!

Perfect snickerdoodles! I am giving the recipe a 4, however, because I believe the reason some others cookies aren't coming out is because of the way the recipe is written. This is exactly how I prepared them: As I do with most cookie recipes, I made the dough ahead of time. Covered with plastic and put in the fridge until I was ready to roll/bake. 1. Combine flour, cream of tartar, baking soda (fresh, not older than a month or two!) and salt in a small bowl and set aside. 2. In a large bowl, cream together butter, shortening and sugar by hand for 3 - 4 minutes. Add eggs, one at a time until incorporated. Add vanilla. Slowly incorporate the dry ingredients just until mixed. Used a small ice cream scoop for perfectly portioned cookies. I baked as the recipe stated, 8 minutes (exactly!) on parchment paper lined baking sheet at 400

Wow, these cookies were amazing. I made this recipe exactly according to directions except for doubling the butter and omitting the shortening. They are nothing short of perfection!! The only difficulty I had was cooking them for just the right amount of time...so keep a close on on them while baking. I read the most positive and least positive reviews before making this recipe, and the consistent "bitter, cream of tartar" as well as the "too sticky dough" reviews made me nervous. Fortunately, I did not have either of those problems WHATSOEVER...not even close. Thank you for an amazing recipe. I think my husband might love me a little more when he has these after work today :)

Unfortunately, you can only go up to 5! These were absolutely amazing...my 4 year old keeps asking me if we can make more "snickernoodles"!

Pretty tasty. Did a few changes: 1) All butter, no shortening. 2) 3 teaspoons vanilla. 3) 3 teaspoons baking powder in place of soda and cream of tartar. 4) Baking temp at 375.
