Amazing!! The only thing I changed was add some allspice and nutmeg. Yummy!

I substituted Smart Balance Spread for the shortening and kept the butter, because I don't generally keep shortening in the house. It worked beautifully!

This was my first attempt at snickerdoodles and they came out pretty well, not as crispy as I would have liked though. I will probably use this recipe again for the holidays.

These are so delicious! I have been making snickerdoodles for years and this is, by far, hands down, the best recipe I have come across! For Christmas, I jazz these up with red and green sugar crystals-Betty Crocker brand. Just recently, for our son's adoption party, I used the larger baby blue sugar crystals you buy at speciality store and placed three in a cellophane bag with a ribbon and mini-rattle for favors.

Oh my gosh Yummm!!! The only change I made was to use butter instead of shortening. I also used a previous reader's advice and took the cookies out while they were "cracked" on top and wet inside. Then, I immediatly put them on a cooling rack. They were soooo delicious and easy.

The cookies are always delicious. I do have a question though: I follow the recipe exactly but have only been able to get the beautiful cracked texture once (when I used a different oven). I really like how they crack and get crunchy on the outside and stay soft on the inside, what was different and how can i try to recreate this effect with my oven...is it the temperature maybe?? any suggestion will help!

Perfectly perfect! This is similar to my keeper recipe, but it ties! I used 1/4c. more flour because I live in high altitute (CO). My first tray was puffy and a bit on the smal side, so with the same sized dough balls I gently patted the second tray down with the flat part of a knife. This tray turned out more like the featured picture. I will use this method for this recipe again. Thank you!

Excellent! Grew up with hand-mixed snickerdoodles. Wowed the nieces & nephews who'd only experienced store-bought. :)

The flavor was good. However, the dough was sticky; and the cookies were rather flat and didn't have the usual fluffy and cracked appearance of a snickerdoodle cookie. I followed the recommendation to bake them at 375 degrees for 8 minutes; then I removed the cookies from the baking stone right away and placed them on a cooling rack.

After using so many recipes on this site, I decided not to be lazy anymore and sign up to review. The boyfriend asked me to make these. I don't even like Snickerdoodles, normally. Have always thought of them as toast in cookie form. Anyway, with just a couple alterations from other reviewers, these were awesome cookies! My boy said they were the best he's ever had. And I even had a few, and like I said before, I usually don't like snickydoos. Alterations I made with the help of other friendly reviewers: Only used about a half tsp. of cream of tartar and used 2 tsps. baking soda. Added about a 1/4 cup of flour after I mixed it because it was a little hard to handle. The only cookie sheet I have is this tiny child sized one and can only make 5-6 cookies at a time. Still, the dough balls, after they had been rolled in the mixture, stayed moist enough while they waited to be cooked. I also cooked them at 375 for exactly 8 mins and took them off the sheet right away. (I don't have a cooling rack but do have a big wooden cutting board that works fine, for any other rack-less people out there.) I stored the cookies in tupperware and thought they were even better the next day. Thank you!

I thought that these turned out great. My Mom, who is now 84 and can't cook anymore wanted me to make them for her. This recipe brought back some good memories for her. I found that if you cook them on parchment paper they are easir to remove from the tray.

I couldn't get these to flatten and get crackled tops like I'm used to with snickerdoodles, but they still tasted great! And they stayed tender even two days later, rather than getting rock hard the next day like my mom's recipe. I took a double batch to work and they were a big hit!
