To Katie O'. You are quite right, authentic Irish soda bread has no fruit BUT authentic Irish FRUIT soda bread does. Also the round shape shown is called a 'Brack' and can also be baked in a round cake tin. Authentic Irish wheaten brack is also baked this way with 50/50 wholemeal & all purpose flour. Neither of these Irish breads have anywhere near as much sugar. They are usually eaten with cheese. Authentic soda bread dough is pressed into a flat circle about 1"thick on a board then the circle is cut into 4 triangles called 'soda farls' then baked in the oven or on an authentic lightly floured griddle.
