I've been making this cake for years. Very moist!! I don't taste the tomato soup in it at all. And yes, the batter is very thick but it bakes up fine.

i have to admit that I have not actually baked up this recipe yet, but I am almost sure that this is the long lost recipe that I have been searching for 6 years to re-find. I do not recal shortning being in the recipe, so I am not sure that this is exactly it, but made right, the tomato soup is PERFECT and you can not taste it. I'm going to have to play around and resubmit the recipe, but I just wanted to say THANK YOU!

I decided to try this on a whim, to see what the tomato soup was like in it... Problems: 1) The cake was way too dense. 2) Everyone at the table guessed that there was tomato in it, the flavor is too strong to be masked entirely. 3) The icing is cloyingly sweet. It wasn't absolutely awful, but I certainly won't be making it again.
