Directions

  1. Grease a cookie sheet or other flat surface.
  2. In a 2 quart glass measuring cup combine water, sugar and corn syrup. Microwave on high until boiling. Stir in peanuts.
  3. Microwave on medium to between 234 and 240 degrees F (112 to 116 degrees C), or until a small amount of syrup dropped into cold water forms a soft ball that flattens when removed from the water and placed on a flat surface.
  4. Stir in butter, vanilla and food coloring. Beat until creamy and cool. Drop by teaspoonfuls onto prepared pan.

Excellent. Made these at least a dozen times and always turn out great, even using salted peanuts. If you skip "beating until creamy" the candy will be grainy. I find it easier to pour hot candy mixture into cooking sprayed cookie sheet and break apart when cool. My step-father requests these all the time.

It tastes great, (maybe a little sweet), but it oozed out all over the pan and every single one was now combined with another!

Tastes VERY good, no matter what type of peanuts you use, salted, raw, they all work! Will make again!

Your recipe works with cashews and maple syrup too! I didn't have corn syrup or peanuts. it turned out great! Thanks for sharing the recipe. I'll try the original as soon as I get the proper ingredients!

just like I remember as a child. they are becoming more and more difficult to find in stores. I was beginning to panic when I found this recipe. Have made it weekly for the past four weeks. Once forgot the butter and it was still great. Just to have some micro times to go by: I cooked the sugar, water, and karo in the micro on high for 7 minutes. then add the other items and cook on 50% for 9 minutes. After beating and pouring, it is perfect. Sometimes I make a huge patty and break it up after it gets hard and sometimes make in individual patties. Always perfect and always disappear quickly. thank you so much for this recipe!!!
