this recipe turned out fine in terms of texture but it took some serious work to get the sauce thickened enough. our complaint was that it simply wasnt 'chocolatey' enough for our tasted and i found it a little sweet(hubby however would have liked more sugar but nothing new there) if we make this again its going to need more cocoa and perhaps some chocolate chips or something... it rose nicely and the texture was pleasent... not a bad recipe at all just in need of some adjustment in this house...thanks for posting it :)

I scaled this recipe down to just one serving and cooked in a coffee mug. I microwaved it for 2 min. and after taking it out, it resembled cake in a mug yet smelled like burned popcorn. After tasting it, It was not moist at all it was more like dry, crunchy powder. verrry salty! I do not suggest this to anyone.

I have no idea how this recipe got any 5 star reviews. Yeah, it's easy to make, but if it doesn't taste good, what's the point? I thought the texture was fine, but the flavor was not sweet even though there is a lot of sugar. I don't think that is the problem. Adding the chocolate sauce made it slightly better, but not enough. I believe in rating the recipe as written and this one only gets 2 stars from me.

I gave this recipe 5 stars not because the taste is amazing but because of how simple it is, how it uses oil and not butter or shortening, and how despite all those, it's totally great! I didnt make the sauce cause we just like the cake part in my house. There was a comment about bad texture - I disagree. At first when we took it out it was a little sticky but another minute in the microwave solved that and after 6 minutes of cooking it was just like any chocolate cake you would make in the oven. Personal touches - little less sugar, little less oil, little baking soda (not enough to make a whole lot of difference)

I have to say that this recipe is awesome! After dinner my friends were craving chocolate and in 10 minutes I was able to serve warm chocolate cake with a delicious sauce. They raved about it, and I have to say it was delicious. Nice moist cake. The only addition I would make are some chocolate chips to the batter and less water in the sauce (to make it thicker). Otherwise this was a great quick dessert!

A quick, yummy recipe when you're short on ingredients or just don't have the time to make an elaborate dessert. I must admit I didn't have all the ingredients on hand so I had to improvise (what else). I used semi-sweet chocolate chips (1/2 cup), condensed milk (3/4 cup) and reduced water to 3/4 cup. I suppose some people might prefer this cake a little sweeter. I have tried microwave cake before (not my own) so I knew not to expect this to turn out *exactly* like oven baked cake. Try this cake with fudge sauce or flowy custard. Thank you for this recipe!

Simply Excellent! I am really amazed this recipe is so underrated. For those who are disappointed with it, all I can say is that it turned out perfect for me from the first time I tried it. No grainy texture (as indicated by someone). Needs no more sugar. Needs no milk. Oil isn't too much. I followed the recipe in detail and the result was amazing. My family raved about it. We had hard time believing this cake contained no eggs, butter or milk. It tastes just as good as other chocolate cakes plus it's so fast and easy. Thank you so much Mary for sharing this recipe.

I just made this for my two girls and their friend. It takes ok however the sauce needs to be thicker. I tried adding more cornstarch but that of course made it taste very grainy. I think you may have ommitted something in this receipe.

This recipe was just bad. First off, the texture. It's very grainy and odd. When you try to chew the cake it kind off falls apart into sandy-like chunks in your mouth. Second is the taste. After testing the batter, I decided that it wasn't sweet enough. In fact, I could barely taste anything. The glob of batter just sat in my mouth, while I tried to comprehend why it didn't taste like anything. I added a little bit more sugar and some Chocolate Sundae Sauce to the batter, which was a big mistake. After cookie and eating the cake, it still didn't taste sweet at all. At first bite, it was simply a warm, mildly sweet glob of cake. However, once swallowed, the sugar and sundae sauce came to haunt me. The taste of extreme sweetness welled in the back of my throat and sat there. Even now, 15 minutes later, I can still taste it. I would only reccomend this cake to small children who don't have a developed palat. To anyone else, I absoloutely DO NOT reccomend this recipe. Sorry to the original creator, but it was quite awful.
