This is an old fashioned, oven baked dessert that everybody loves. My mom always baked apples, but I added the red-hots because I love them.

I LOVE harvesttime and being able to cook with all the fresh produce gathered from gardens and groves. Since there's so much of everything, I try to be creative by enhancing old recipes with slight variations. That's what happened with these baked apples. The spices and touch of orange make the flavor just perfect! --Lorraine Chausse Cornwall, Ontario

When the weather turns cooler in fall, these baked apples from my mom are sure to warm you up. Our family enjoys them with turkey, pork...even meat loaf. My husband and I like to add a bit more horseradish for extra zip. --Dee Poppie, Gilman, Illinois

This is a family standard. We have it at least once a week during the winter. The spices, nuts and raisins can be interchanged or omitted depending upon your tastes. Serve with oatmeal, French toast, pancakes, or as a side dish.

Apple slices fried in a pan! These are a good side with fried sausages and mashed potatoes. They would also be excellent served with vanilla ice cream!
