DIRECTIONS
In a mixing bowl, beat egg whites until foamy. Sprinkle with cream of tartar and salt; beat until soft peaks form. Gradually add sugar and vanilla, beating until stiff peaks form, about 5-8 minutes. If desired, divide batter in half and fold in red and green food coloring.
Drop by rounded tablespoonfuls 1-1/2-in. apart onto lightly greased baking sheets. Press a chocolate kiss into the center of each cookie and cover it with meringue using a knife. Bake at 275 degrees F for 30-35 minutes or until firm to the touch. Immediately remove to a wire rack to cool. Store in an airtight container.

My partner asked me to make meringue kisses for Christmas, followed Tami's recipe and he loved them. His family work in the candy industry and they loved them so much they wanted the recipe. Thanks Tami.

I had never made any meringues before, so this was a little difficult. I think I may have prematurely added the ingredients or something, but it took forEVER to make stiff peaks. I didn't use an electric beater until my arm felt like it was going to fall off. Nevertheless, the results were delicious, allbeit unpresentable. The bottoms puffed up like those of muffins. I'm sure my difficulties were due to my inexperience, but once I get the courage to try again, it will be well worth the labor.

I found that the meringue kisses came out better baking at 225 for about 45 minutes. My first batch I followed as directed and they cracked and were a little wet inside. The second batch when I lowered and longered cooking they came out much better. Thannks.

Very nice, my husband would give it 4 stars. But I suppose I was looking for the chocolate kiss to melt a bit more. Then the sugar high after 2 was pretty amazing.
