This is awesome and versatile. I add whatever dried fruit I feel like. I have also added ground flax seed. My kids, both teens, love this stuff, and I know its healthy because I made it myself. I use honey and molasses to sweeten, and its great. Thanks for this great recipe!

I love this kind of granola - everything chopped small and it is crunchy. I wish I had known that it gets crunchier as it cools - I wouldn't have baked it for so long. I also would have added the dried fruit right after the granola came out of the oven so that the fruit stuck to the granola. I used dried cherries and they taste great.

I love this recipe! the best part is that you can mix n match the sweeteners to suit your taste. I usually use 1 cup brown sugar, 1/4 cup honey, and 1/2 cup syrup. It's cheaper that way and still really yummy!

This was an excellent granola!! My husband took some to work and his coworkers are demanding that I make more. Another thing I loved about making this is that the kids could help me stir it all together- and after it's all done we use it as a breakfast cereal!

It seems unfair to rate a recipe I've changed, but it's SOOO good, I wanted to add my 5 stars. To start, I only changed the recipe because I didn't have a few of the ingredients, like the oat bran, sunflower seed, almonds, and wheat germ. I will add at least some of those ingredients the next time I make it for the added health benefits. I added extra walnuts (to make up for the lack of almonds) and coconut per other's reviews. I also cut back on the oil, using 3/4 cup of canola (what I always have on hand). I think I'll cut back on the honey the next time, too, just to try and have less sugar. The recipe is great the way it is, but I think you could use less sweetener and it would still be good. I baked mine at 300, since other readers mentioned problems burning (and I know that would be me to forget about it!) It took almost 30 minutes at 300. Whatever temperature you use, WATCH it in the last 10 minutes or so, it gets toasty looking really fast! In all, a GREAT recipe the way it is, and it's even BETTER because of all the creativity you can have with it!

Took Ggrasley advice: "I do like cooking it on convection at 200 for about 50 min. It takes three cookie sheets and with convection and/or a low temp you don't have to fear burning the granola." Contributer note: There is a slight mistake on the recipe. My original calls for 1 Tablespoon (not teaspoon) of cinnamon and 1 Tablespoon of vanilla. Use 1/2 applesauce and 1/2 oil for healthier blend.

I have been making a similar "Super Granola" for over a year and eat it every day. For sweetness, I omit the brown sugar and syrup and use 1/2 cup honey and 1/2 cup molasses. Oats, 3 cups mixed nuts and 3 cups mixed dried fruit are essential and anything else is up to what's on hand, your tastes and budget. No parchment paper or foil is needed. I use 3 T. of cinnamon (so healthy) and 2 T of vanilla and 3/4 cup of canola oil. Also add 21/2 cups of water or apple juice to the liquid mixture. To get a less crumbly granola, add 1 cup of whole wheat flour to the mixture before pouring in the liquid mix and it will clump up a lot. Bake at 275 for 60 to 80 minutes, stirring every 20 minutes and chopping up clumps into smaller pieces with a spatula. The lower temperature helps avoid burning.

This granola really didn't do it for me. I'm not sure what I expected but the flavor was kind of "off" to me. The only change I made was I added some dried cherries along with the raisins & cranberries. My kitchen smells wonderful but that was the only wonderful part. I was going to give some in gifts bags for Christmas but I think that I will forget that idea. The couple of people who have tasted it gave it a thumbs down. It makes a huge amount of granola - not sure what I will do with it. PLUS, it took a lot of ingredients and the ingredients were not cheap. Maybe you should start out making a half batch. That way you won't waste quality & pricey ingredients. I think you could find a better granola recipe than this. I was disappointed.

You can make this into 'Christmas' granola if you add something green- I like shelled pistachios- makes a nice gift!

Great basic recipe. I use only oats and not the other grains (what I had on hand). I made 1/2 batch and cooked it in my crock pot, stirring occasionally, then setting it out too cool and "harden". That worked great and I did not have any burt granola! I have made this several times with different dried fruits and nuts. It is always yummy!

Great, lots of nuts make it soooo yummy!! And you can mix and match nuts or raisins/craisins/cranberries to get the total amount of nuts needed. So crunchy... just sweet enough!! This was awesome! Thank you!

Excellent Granola! Here's a little tip if you're the type of person who doesn't like dirtying up a 3/4 cup measuring cup for one ingredient and instead eye-balls 3/4 of your much used and dirty 1 cup measuring cup. Switch the order of your vegetable oil and honey. Put your cup of vegetable oil in the sauce pan first, then eye-ball your 3/4 cup of honey and add it. The honey slides right into your sauce pan with no sticking and no spatula needed. Other than that, great recipe. As another reviewer pointed out, don't make this thinking it's a "budget" granola. It cost me 12 bucks and I already had about half the ingredients. Make this as a special treat or a holiday gift!

LOVE it! I made my 1st batch yesterday, and it's half gone already! I quit buying store-bought cereal for my 4 kiddos, and needed an alternative to hot cereals. My teenager wants it for snacks, the 10 year old that hates nuts likes it very well, and the 2 year old calls it "cookie cereal" and ate 1 1/2 cups of it for breakfast this morning! Next batch I will play with the ingredients to add some variety, but this is totally perfect as-is. Sweetened perfectly, but not too much, and crunchy, chewy and very flavorful! I did need to adjust the cooking time as my oven cooks slowly, but that was the only difference. I opted to stir it every 5 minutes as I have bad memories of burnt granola from my childhood lol! This will certainly be a household staple now - thank you so much for the fabulous recipe!

Really good! I made with sugar free syrup, splenda and brown sugar twin and it came out great. Added freshly ground flax seed (1/2 cup) which gives a nice nutty flavor. Thanks for a fabulous recipe! I will be making the full version for christmas gifts this year.

I made this in a crockpot. I halfed the recipe and used a 4.5 quart crockpot on high for about 3.5 hours. I put in all the dry ingredients and then the wet and mixed well. I then vented the lid with a chopstick and stirred every once in a while. No risk of burning and it turned out awesome. It's a good cereal type granola, not trail mix type with large clumps. I also traded melted butter for the oil.

I have been making this granola for the past few years. It is a great base and I have tried it with all sorts of nuts and dried fruit. I do like cooking it on convection at 200 for about 50 min. It takes three cookie sheets and with convection and/or a low temp you don't have to fear burning the granola. My favorite addition is coconut and using dried blueberries for the fruit. I usually even heat the oil and honey in a cup in the microwave. I don't think you could screw this up...except by burning it of course!! YUM!! Thank you for the recipe Megan.
