I have 4 children, 4 and under, and we love granola. LOVE. This is our very favorite recipe and we've tried a few. We make this about twice a month. It's sweet enough, but not too sweet, and it's really easy to make. We sub chopped apricots and dried cherries instead. And sometimes we add in semi chocolate chips after it's cooled. Also, it's wonderful with homemade yogurt drizzled over top.

We liked this a lot - and my kids are the kind who like sugary cereals. (Can't get the dad to stop buying it.) For us it was just sweet enough. Don't cut down the sweeteners unless you're the tree-hugging, granola-eating type... oops, um, never mind. We halved the sunflower seeds like one person suggested, and I couldn't taste them, but my daughter did and suggested we leave them out next time. The health food store I got my goodies at didn't have walnuts, so we upped the pecans instead, and they were OUT of oat bran, so that went out, too. (A health food store with NO OAT BRAN? Yeah, really!) We made it with the craisins, and it was tasty! I thought it was a little chewy at the end of 20 minutes but was afraid to burn it thanks to other comments, so I turned off the oven and left it in for about an hour (like we do with meringue). It came out just right - crispy and no longer raw-tasting but not burned. Thanks, Megan!

I was never really into granola until years ago I tried the one from Costco and became hooked! They ended up changing their ingredients & it now tastes like cardboard : ( .. so I have been on the hunt! I recently found one at Walmart by Harvest's Best & it is pretty good.. especially with strawberry yogurt & a little bit of banana.. Their granola was a bit to gooey.. But I found this recipe & I looked at the ingredients from the Walmart one & they are almost identical! I was so excited to make this.. first I wanted to make it using all the ingredients & no substitutes!! I did add pine nuts, cut the raisens in 1/2 & added cranberries.. I did 1/2 sliced almonds & the other half whole roasted almonds.. I read all the reviews before getting started.. so I did set the oven for 300 & for 10 minutes.. then I added my raisins/cranberries & mixed very well & set for 5 minutes & mixed again & set for another 5 minutes & one more time..I waited for it to completed cool & it was crispy!! Is it Costco's granola mix? No, but it is really yummy!! Just keep mixing till your arm falls off & they will all get coated! Next time I would cut back on the rolled oats a bit, add pumpkin seeds, flax seeds & cut the maple syrup in 1/2.. tasty, but too overbearing!! I will definitely make again! It was so easy!!

not enough sauce to coat all the oats. was a bit bitter. wasn't really good to eat plain but was good to mix in yogurt and ice cream with out adding extra sweetness.

There is way too much rolled oats in this recipe. I barely got the entire batch coated with the sauce.

Great basic recipe that you can adjust to your own taste. I left out the maple syrup, and it tastes great without it. I did bake mine longer than the 20 min to get it more crisp. It is a bit pricey to buy all the ingredients initially, but it makes a huge batch of relatively healthy granola without all the preservatives. Will definitely make again.

very good and versatile- i didn't have wheat germ or bran but increased my oats. i cut the sugar for everything, but don't do that here! 20 min left the granola too chewy for my taste, so i cooked it another 20 min. great starting point, to add whatever nuts, etc. that you want. if you really like raisins, i suggest increasing to 3 cups :)

Press it down while it's still warm and let cool. Then it might break into larger clumps for easier toddler and little kid snacking! My family loved this granola and they aren't big granola fans.

This was very good. I accidentally burned mine because I thought it needed to get crispy in the oven. It was good anyways and when kept in an airtight container it lasts forever in the fridge! Will make again!

My husband asked for home made granola yesterday and I had never made it before. I made this and we are so happy with it! I added some nutmeg and used all almonds and walnuts instead of the sunflower seeds and pecans. I will make this over and over! Thanks!

I changed a few things to avoid going back to the store, but for a first time granola maker, this was a great base recipe. Here are my changes: Used 1/2 stick of butter and 1/3 cup oil Did not have any basics but oats so I used 1 cup original grape nuts and 1 cup all bran original anlong with the oats. Toasted the nuts before adding them. Split the recipe and added fruit to half of it (along with some orange zest). Yummo!

Yum! I used dried cherries, dried blueberries and chopped toasted pecans for my additions. This recipe has great "bones" and can be adapted many ways. I have to say it's expensive to make -spend $30 to get $20 of granola - but I love knowing exactly what's in it and it's more importantly, what's NOT! Regardless, I would say the price is competitive with high end store-bought. It also freezes well.

I would've never, in a million years, thought that was all there was to making REALLY GOOD granola!!!! I made it with the kids and I actually had to reprimand them to stop eating it or it would've been gone before my husband got home from work (and it was for him!) Made it just as written but with 1 c. raisins and 1 c. craisins. Can't wait to try it on ice cream or yogurt and as cereal. Most helpful advice from previous reviewer is to not panic when it comes out of the oven looking less than crunchy. As it cools, it does crunchify. Ahhhhh, granola with an ingredient list that entirely pronounceable.

This was really easy to make. My husband and I like to take granola to work and buying it premade at the store is so expensive. We both love it. I also like mixing it with yogurt for breakfast.

Tastes great! However, I have made granola with WAY less oil and sugar and it still has great taste without all the calories. I also added flax seed.

Great stuff! I followed some reviewers advice and used coconut oil (an ultra healthy miracle food...in my opinion) instead of veg oil (poison, in my opinion:D)and did as others, using the nuts I had on hand. I used equal parts honey, maple syrup and brown sugar! This is the best granola! Going to add some pineapple jerky as soon I can get to the store.
