Simple and easy to do. As others said, it is very simple tasting...good for the picky eaters in your life. I turned them over about 1/2 way through and put butter on top when I served them. I will make this again. Next time I'll add bacon and a little shredded cheese.

These came out really well - I've made potato cakes in years gone by, the way my Grandma used to, never oven baked - I love this idea, so much easier than pan frying - they do come out best with mash that is quite firm i.e. been in the fridge for a couple of days - I added a little cheese to my mash and they were far from bland. I will be looking for reasons to make mash potato more often now so I can make these again!

WOW!!! These are so good. I used mashed potatoes that were already seasoned with salt, pepper, onions, and cheese. The cakes cooked up perfectly. They were even better than ones I had tried in Ireland. I added cheese on top which turned out great.

I like the idea of these, but like another reviewer stated, if your potatoes are creamy, these don't really form very well. I added a lot of flour and ended up having to just spoon lumps onto my baking pan. I also think they need a little more flavor. I think if I try them again I will add some crumbled bacon and cheese, and more seasoning.

I made the recipe as states, but, added some shredded cheddar cheese. I thought these were just ok, but, it was a good way to use up some leftover mashed potatoes and I would make them again but experiment with some other flavors.

Yum! My mom made something like this when I was a kid, so I thought I'd try this recipe, and I was very pleased with the results. The only thing I changed was I coated the cakes in a combination of bread crumbs, parmesan cheese, salt and pepper, and lightly fried them in butter and olive oil. Oh, and I left out the water, but just because my potatoes were pretty creamy. They were very delicate to work with, but worth it. We all really enjoyed them. Thanks for the recipe, Eva!

Very good! This is the first time I baked them. Usually I fry them in a pan. I definitely prefer baking. Only change was that I scooped 1/2 a cake onto the sheet, made a little well, sprinkled a little mozzarella cheese, and then scooped the other 1/2 on top for a cheesy surprise in the middle.

Great! The oven gave them a nice crispiness. I added a lot more than a dash of hot sauce. It's how I keep the kids from eating my food. Little brats!

I changed the recipe to 3 cups of mashed potatoes, 1 egg, 1/4 cup flour, and 1/2 onion and seasoning salt to taste (I use "Holmans" - a salt/pepper blend made in Minden, NE). Then I fried the patties in vegetable oil. My kids loved them.

I made the recipe as directed with the exception of the onions. I used garlic seasoning and fried these instead of baking. They were great. Will try these next time with the onion. I loved them.

I've learned a few tips making these - for those of you whose patties didn't stay together - it's probably because your mashed potatoes are too creamy. You have to have mashed potatoes that are on the stiffer side or they won't hold their shape. I've tried to add more flour in the past to rectify this but it just made them gummy. Also, I wouldn't add the water that this recipe calls for - just makes the mixture that much more wet. For flavor - I use seasoning salt instead of regular salt. This recipe also does call for lots of onion - which I love - but kids aren't too fond of it - so I divide my batch in half - add the onion to the "adults" one and put onion powder in the "kids" one. Adding parsley flakes makes it look a little more fancy if you have company. And, frying in butter gives good flavor but it does brown quite fast and it will affect the taste of your cakes. Pam works like a charm but is not as flavorful (I use butter flavoerd Pam). Hope these help!
